I've been wanting a slightly newer plinker than the old colt woodsman. Maybe I'm missing something but a revolver really seems to be like the most logical way to go unless I want to buy a bunch of mags or spend time reloading mags. Anyway what would you suggest? I'm thinking taurus 970 6" stainless, 7 shots, and about $325, or the 5" 941 8 shot

Just bought a TAURUS 94 (9 shot .22LR) last week for $269.00 I'll be going to try it out on Thursday. I'll let you know.

Blessings,

Pete

I would look for a used S&W K-22 Masterpiece, later known as the M17. These are available on the used market for as little as $250. Great revolvers that cannot be worn out by shooting -- even though I am trying.

Ruger Single-Six combo......The second gun I bought, I ALWAYS enjoy shooting it..Easy to clean and I love shooting those mags'........

+1, except it was the FIRST gun I bought, and I still enjoy it.
Besides the .22 Magnums, the .22LR cylinder also likes .22 short, quiet CB caps, subsonics, all types of ammo. Adjustable sights, nice long barrel and a long sight radius.
.

Funny, my 5" Taurus 941 holds 9 rounds. I've been very happy with it and the 2" 94 we bought as a J-frame practice analog.

THe Ruger single six is great, but unless you like the cowboy loading gate you'll have more fun stuffing rounds into a Ruger Mk II mag :)

I've got an H&R model 999. Top break 9 shot double action. Couldn't ask for anything more. Too bad no one makes anything like it today.

Pete, be sure the windage adjustment screws on the rear sights are tight. Mine were loose, came out & lost 'em. Saved the sight blade though. I've heard of this happening to at least one other.

Low cost 22

I just bought a used Browning Buckmark in really NICE condition for $200. I have been drifting away from revolvers and back to self loaders for the 22 LR. One of the reasons is the 5 inch Buckmark produces higher velocity (By enough to say there's a difference worth noting.) than a 6 inch revolver.

The 9 shot Taurus is a very good, smooth shooting revolver. My buddy has one and has put lots and lots of rounds through it. Very accurate too!

ruger makes a nice semi-auto .22LR pistol, and clean used models can be had for a very reasonable price ;)

I'd get a semi auto but then it turns into either magazine reloading or buying a bunch of magazines....the revolver would be a convenient reloading without making me $200 worth of magazines ;)

I've been trying to wear mine out since 1974. It still shoots minute of squirrel.
I had a Ruger Single Six combo about 10 years ago. My k-22 could shoot circles
around it. I did like the .22 mag option, though I've read that the bore size of
the barrel is a compromise to allow you to shoot both calibers.
If I could find another k-22 for $250 I'd buy it right now. The prices I've seen
lately have been between $350 and $400.
I've also been looking for a 4" model 63 S&W. Just missed one the other day for $390.
I've fired the S&W 617. Nice, smooth, accurate but not inexpensive by any means. My local shop has one, used, for $525.
I saw a S&W .22/32 "kitgun", unfired, in my local classified paper
2 weeks ago for $425. 1 day late. :(
My k-22 is the most accurate revolver I've ever owned. If you can find one,
jump on it.
