Decided to upgrade my semi-auto shotgun from my Winchester 1400 and finally ended up buying a Browning Gold Hunter 3". The majority of the feedback I received in the decision process was "get a Benelli". The deal I got on the Browning jyst seemed too sweet to pass up. I have read the feedback on several forums and the negatives seem to be primarily aimed at the Gold 3-1/2" when shooting light 2-3/4" loads. Feedback??? Good purchase?

I've owned the Gold in a 3", 3.5" and currently have a Gold 20. All three were good shotguns, very good shotguns in fact. The 3" was duplicated and outperformed by the 3.5" when I got it so off it went, and then I sold the 3.5" to buy a SuperX2. The 20 will leave my possession when I am dead and cold.

Some things I have learned:

Go down to the discount auto parts store of your choosing and get a quart of Mobil 1 15w-50 engine oil. This is the ONLY oil you will ever need for your Gold. Put a couple drops in each bolt rail inside the reciever, a couple drops on the bolt rails of the carrier. Put a drop on each place where the bolt contacts the carrier: locking foot on the bottom, locking lug on the top, front sliding surface, and each side of the bolt. EVERYTHING else is DRY. You can put a drop of very light oil on the pivot points in the trigger group if it makes you feel better but it isn't needed. Keep the bolt rails wet with the motor oil and it will run like a swiss watch. Avoid overcleaning, wipe it down every time out and clean it every 1000 rounds of when it gets wet, whichever comes first. Each time out make sure the bolt rails are wet and have fun.

Hope this helps.

Thank You

Appreciate the feedback. It seems like a very nice shotgun. Looking forward to my first trip out to the range/field. Eventually want to get a 20ga semi-auto for my spouse (and me too:) ). If all goes well with the Gold, I may become a two Browning owner.

Thanks again.
