I had a similar conversation with an "Anti" and his girlfriend at an outdoor concert. He stated that he could never, under any circumstances, willingly take another human life. I asked him, "What if your girlfriend here was being beaten and brutally raped; would you kill her attacker?" He said that he would try to "subdue" him but not kill him.

I laughed right in his face and said to his girlfriend, "Remember this moment when you are walking with your boyfriend down a dark, deserted street." The look of disgust she gave him was priceless! I'll bet their relationship didn't survive the evening.

In our store we offer many "evil black guns". I occasionally get a comment "Why would anyone want one of THOSE?"

I reply that morning, on my way to work, I saw a Corvette Stingray. There's a car capable of 160 mph. Why would anyone want or need such a powerful car? Maybe we should outlaw such vehicles

It usually gets my point across.

.....because I live in a semi-rural county that is routinely patrolled by a grand total of two deputies on most shifts

.....because I love my wife and son and want to ensure that they are not only safe and protected, but also that they continue to have a husband and father.

.....because pointing my index finger at a bad guy got the crap beat out of me last time I was mugged.

.....because my gun needs to be walked every day, otherwise it gets "hyperactive."

.....because I know a bunch of cops and frankly, I trust my shooting more than theirs.

At lunch last week a co-worker asked why I carried a gun. "Are you paranoid?" she asked.

I replied - "No - why do you have homeowner's insurance? Do you even KNOW anyone who's house has burned down? I don't - yet I know plenty of people that have been victims of crime."

I've never been asked. Very few people even know I own guns. The only person who knows that I am either carrying or have one with-in reach 99% of the time is my LEO son-in-law.

I like the "don't ask-don't tell" theory.
