Got some spare cash laying around and wanted a toy. Found this,

I got the guy to go down to 150 for it. I don't really care about the sporterizing as I wanted to put a scope onto it anyways. I just want something fairly accurate and cheap.

Can anyone tell if this is a german or yugo? How does it differ from a k98? Can I mount a synthetic stock to this, or is that just for k98s?

Its a Yugo 24/47 - as to the synthetic stock.....I dont know much about them.

If your wanting a cheap K98 then look for a Yugo or Russian captured K98.

These run around $125 to $150 or so - they are REAL K98 Mausers that were captured by opposing forces, usually remarked. They loose their collector value but still are the same great Mauser.

Heres my $130 Yugo capture K98.

I'm second guessing this one already after doing more reading. Thinking about going the original route and not the bubba route.

I have a Yugo 48 and paid to have the bolt turned down. I mounted it in the Advanced Technology PSG style stock and mounted a Tasco World Class mil Dot 3x9 scope and this things shoots 1000 meters nicely. Just a Thought. Blitz

It's a Yugo going by the handguard. (Full back past the rear sight)

I think ATI makes synth stocks and scope mounts for the yugos. My m48a has an allready turned down bolt but it still won't clear the bell on the scope so the bracket is just a little bit set off to the left of the barrel. The action between a traditional K98 and the Yugo Mausers are shorter so some of the parts for K98's won't work on the yugo.

Jay, that Yugo's bolt is turned down about 45 degrees, I had mine taken further down to allow a scope. it cost 50 bucks.i am really impressed with the ATI stock. The one that looks like the Styer scout. It handles well and has a built on rail. very comfortable to shoot. Total cost was about $300 including the scope and 50 bucks gun smithing. I made three and gave one to each of my sons. One of my sons sold his to a friend for $500. I thought of making a few more:) Blitz
