I'm looking to get my first shotgun soon. It will be used for plinking and some trap shooting. I would prefer it be an affordable yet reliable synthetic pump action style. What are my options?

870, 500, 88, 982, Pardner Protector...

Feel free to use the search function, there is a ton of info on this in the archives.

A brand new Remington 870 Express or a Mossberg 500 can be had for around $250 give or take. Both come in a variety of configurations and both are solidly built, reliable shotguns. A new Mossberg Maverick 88 can be had for less than 200 bucks, but Ive never handled one so I cant speak to the quality or function.
Personally, I dont think you can go wrong with the 870.

870 if you can afford it.... but wally world sells Mossberg Mavericks w/syn stocks for $147 ....thats hard to beat for a first shotgun....

Either the Mossberg 500 or the Remington 870. I don't like the safety on the 870, and the 500 felt better to me, so I got the 500. Handle both of them and go from there.

I know alot of people will say 870, but i say Mossberg 500. It's was my first shotgun, and the only one i will trust. plus the 870 has that weird little flap where you put in the shells.
