Recently I became intrested in trap shooting and shotgun sports in general, and I'm looking for a shotgun to use. I'm looking for a shotgun that is under $1000, preferably a pump action, and is 20-gauge.

Thanks.

I can't think of any pump action 20 ga. you can't get for under 1000 bucks. Take your pick! Winchester, Remington, Benelli :barf: , whatever you like and think has the best feel.

TRAP SHOOTING - -

I've gotted too old and semi-disabled to still shoot trap but I've sure busted a lot of caps at the trap range in my life. I'm going to advise you to visit some shoots and look closely at what everybody shoots.

As I remember, any formal or serious shooting was pretty much all done with the 12 gauge guns. Of course, I may be really out of date and there may be a 20 gauge competition class on today's trap ranges.

As for the gun, be it 12 or 20, all you need is a Remington 870. There are more expensive pump guns but, IMHO, any amount that you spend above the price of the Remington is being spent for bragging rights. I think mine was an 870T Wingmaster. I can check, if needed, because one of my sons has it now.

You'll enjoy the sport if you keep it as a sport. It often becomes an obsession.

For any more or less serious trap you need 12 gauge. You see, you are shooting target flying very fast from you. If you can't stand recoil from 12, use special recoil pad and recoil reducer(s). But, by all means, go with 12! Second rule - semi-autos, in general, have less recoil than OU or pumps. My recommendation will be Remington 11-87 with 30" BBL. It is also important because you will be able shoot doubles also.

Another story if you will shoot trap to improve your hunting skills. In this case you can have Remington 870 in 20. But I would recommend skeet, five stands or sporting clays games to be close to real field situation.
