I just returned from the Bill Goodman show in Sharonville and it was a pretty good show, except that it was crowded as usual.

A dealer from N Canton was there again with a boat load of surplus arms. I almost bought a Walther P1 at the last Sharonville show, but wanted to read up on them a little first. They were $269 + tax last time, and today they had them marked down to $259.

I bought a P1 today. It's the police model with a black holster, two mags, and cleaning kit. $277.00 OTD with a credit card; no discount for cash.:) My slide is marked 12/79 with a four point star. The frame is marked W9.84 and has the hexagon pin between the take down lever and slide release. One mag is marked 2/63, the other 9/60.

This dealer also had a bunch of Yugo SKS's for under $100 ($94 + tax I think) and some Romanian AK's for about $300. They had other rifles too.

They had two guys manning the tables and were selling guns as fast as they could write them up. I had to wait about 10 minutes just to start the process.

This is not a big show so they only charge $6, but is almost all gun and knife related. Who said gun shows are no good any more? poppy

Hello poppy. Guess this is a "different strokes for different folks" thing, I don't like that Sharonville show at all. Too small, and not enough folks bring in guns to trade/sell, which means you're stuck with what the tableholders feel like charging. And $6 is too dang much to get in the door at avenue that small.

The PRO outfit was scheduled to have a 750 table show in Athens Ohio this weekend. Hope somebody in attendance gives us a full report.

I attend the Nashville TN Goodman shows sometimes. They are just fine. It is not giant show, but there is usually stuff that I see that I want when I attend at market prices. In past years, I attended one in Dayton OH and it was excellent. I believe that is one of his bigger show locations.

Huh. No wonder why the Akron show wasn't that great today with PRO, BG, and the PGCA in Monroeville pulling dealers away from the show.

Crazy Prices.

I stopped there before work this morning. There were a few vendors with some good pricing. Notably the guys Poppy mentioned and the couple that is/runs SS Firearms. At least as far as surplus goes.
However, some of the pricing was just crazy. Like M48 Yugos for 249.00!! A buddy of mine bought one at AIM a month ago for 109.00. I realize dealers have to make a living, but that seems a wee bit pricey. Then there was 500 rounds of XM193 for 160.00!!! Then of course the usual beat-up, no finish AR mags for twelve bucks, etc. etc. This was a distinct contrast to the last Dayton Goodman show where the general pricing seemed reasonable.

Well, just got off the phone with a friend of mine who went to the Akron show just after I left.

Yet another discharge during a show. Apparently occurred on the upper level. No injuries, hole in the ceiling.

Akron show

I was there, I heard it was a primer only, no case no bullet, just a... PEN?!?. I guess they were checking the firing pin. Whatever.

back on topic. I picked up a Yugo SKS in Akron for $95 out the door. Can with a few extras but nothing exciting.

Try the PRO sponsored shows, often held in Columbus or Willmington. Well attended, and good variety of vendors.

Huh, I'll have to ask him for more details. He had related that it was a round and put a hole in the ceiling.

I picked up a Type 99 Arisaka with the mum intact yesterday at the gunshow in Athens. The show was large enough to be worth the $4 for entrance, but not nearly as big as the ones they have in Westland. I think they have one there next week.

I've heard that there were 750 tables, but there were also a lot of empty tables and spaces, so maybe some dealers just didn't show up. There were barely a dozen people walking around with guns to sell, but plenty just walking around with guns. Oddly enough, those selling at tables had better deals than did those walking around.

I almost went to the Sharonville show, but I did not make it. I think I am going to try to sell my SW Sigma 40VE at the next one in Dayton.
