I posted this in another section but thought I'd put it out there where there are more viewers to respond.

Any suggestions for any reputable gun stores in the Alpharetta, Ga. (North of Atlanta) area?

My friend just moved there and he is looking to buy a Marlin 336CS and is also interested in learning to deer hunt and to find an indoor/outdoor range in the area, as well?

Thanks,

Theres not much in Alpharetta other than paintball. I think a new shop had opened on Holcomb bridge between 400 and highway 9 - there is a gun club that operates out of roswell but their range is 30-45 minutes north depending on where your at, and if i remember right requires membership which i think costs like 700$ to join.

Fulton County sucks ass. As far as I know there isnt any ranges and very few gun stores in fulton. Your going to have to go into Cobb, Gwinnett, or one of the other neighboring counties for a range.

Probably the best indoor range imho is Hot Shots in smyrna
http://www.hotshotsga.com/
but they dont have a rifle range..

American Classic Marksmen in Norcross is an indoor range that will let you shoot a rifle but its really a pistol range.

Eds Guns and Pannels are in Woodstock are options, neither range is all that great, but eds has 2 rifle lanes.

Some google searchs might help, and maybe someone will have better info. Im not a deer hunter and hve just started looking for some outdoor ranges myself

Youll need to head North or Far to the south of ATL to really find anything in terms of an outdoor range.

Adventure Outdoors on South Cobb Drive just south of Marietta and Dobbins AFB is my favorite gun shop in metro Atlanta. They have the best prices on guns, but unfortunately, no shooting range. On the south side of Atlanta, there is a shooting range in Fayetteville and one near the State Farmers' Market just off I-75 and just south of I-285.

Fulton County and the cities within do INDEED suck (none moreso than Atlanta). They are run by Democratic Liberals who absolutely hate guns and hate white people even more. Be careful when you drive through these liberal jurisdictions with a gun in your car. They would love to lock you up for it, confiscate your gun, and have you executed if they can find a way to get away with it. Just consider yourself in Jeronimo country like during the 1800's, and in every bit as much danger.

Ranges:
There really isn't much outdoor in the Atlanta area. Some other posters mentioned some indoor ones, so I'll give you your outdoor options:

Your closest: River Bend Gun Club in Roswell/Acworth, but it's exclusive--by invitation only. It's pretty expensive ($300/yr + $600 induction fee) as well. If you have the necessary connections you might be able to get in there. I don't have connections, so I'm stuck shooting with the 'unwashed masses' elsewhere.

Probably your closest open-to-the-public outdoor shooting range is Advanced Bullets in Temple, Georgia. It's about 60 miles west of Alpharetta. It's right off of I-20, so it isn't that bad of a drive. I used to live out that way and shot there a lot, and it's reasonably decent: 10, 25, 50, 100 yd ranges + skeet/trap and cheap ($5/hour).

Next closest is a WMA (Wilson Shoals WMA) public range near Gainesville. If you go up there, be sure to bring target holders that will stick into the ground--there's nothing but dirt there. Range time is prepaid by your tax dollars.

As far as gun stores:

Adventure Outdoors is a big gun store in Smyrna. I've never been there, but I have heard they are good. However, they have had some trouble with NYC Mayor Bloomberg's coalition, so I'm not 100% sure they're still open.

It's not near Alpharetta, but I usually go to Bulls Eye Range and Guns in Lawrenceville. They have indoor pistol and rifle ranges and a small shop with reasonable prices.

Looking at my calendar, there's an Eastman gun show Jan 5-6 at Jim Miller Park. It's a brand new venue for this show, so I can't comment on it's quality. Eastman shows are usually pretty good though.

Unless your friend has a massive tract private property in the middle of nowhere, forget deer hunting anywhere near the Atlanta area. There are some $$$ hunt clubs here and there, but nowhere near Atlanta. The few people around here that I know that hunt either own or lease property way, way, way out in the middle of nowhere specifically for hunting purposes. There's very little public land open for hunting, especially without very special 'lottery' style licensing.

Well, this is the map I made for gun stores: http://tinyurl.com/yw5rnd

I have a membership at the Bulls Eye in Cumming (I live in Sandy Springs), so it's the closest good range to me. It's about 2 miles from 400 on exit 13. ACM is also fairly close, but their ventilation sucks and I'm dumb enough without lead poisoning ;)

I'll probably head up to Bulls Eye this Sunday, so if you'd like to shoot with me, let me know here or over on the GPDO forums: http://www.georgiapacking.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=117449 (thread for this Sunday's visit)

EDIT: All of us Georgia people have less than 200 posts. How odd...

Agree with whats posted. I've found Adventure Outdoors in Smyrna to be the most reasonable as far as price and selection. The "Hot Shots" range and store is still there and operational but it's called "Wild West Traders" - this is where I generally shoot - but pistols only...

not much in Alpharetta or Roswell, but just to the east in Buford is David's Gun Room (on Buford Highway). Not a huge store but good folks; good selection, and if you need gunsmithing, some of the best in the Atlanta area.

Peachtree City

Any places around Peachtree City? I'm going to the inlaws for the holidays and I might need to get away for a few hours!!

My favorite gunstores in North Georgia are:

Adventure Outdoors: Large selection ( especially used guns ) and reasonable prices. Have always been underwhelmed by the staff there and they make Walmart look quick when buying a gun. Every piece of paper work is checked by about 1/2 dozen people. I understand they are involved in the Bloomburg lawsuit so I understand they have to be very careful however.

Bargain Barn in Jasper has a good selection and prices are better than average on most guns. Staff has always been friendly and knowledgeable to me.

Shulers in Gainseville and Grants in Dalton are my favorites because most of the long guns are out in racks where they can be handled by customers without having to ask a clerk to hand you every gun. This allows you to get a feel for a lot of guns during one visit. The staff has always treated me well there and the prices are OK. Maybe a little higher than some of the others.

Autrey's Armory is in Fayetteville--that's right next to PC. It's a shop and indoor range. I've only been there once, and it's been a while but it seemed OK.
