i'm looking for a good holster for XD 40, something like uncle mike's ambidextrous. i have an uncle mike's for my KP95, but it seem to flop around. I have similar holster by Mil Tech for my USP 45, nice fit and doesnt flop around, but nobody seems to sell it.
both of these have extra magazine pouch in the front.

if you own XD 40 and uses such holster, which one do you have and where did you get it?

Gudel,

I've got a Sidearmor arriving Friday, and I've been carrying in a Fobus thus far. I like the Fobus, but I like how IWB hides better. My best recommendation is to go to theHS2000talk forums and do a search for holsters.

Short of recommending the usual array of good holster makers, that's the best I can do.

Are you looking for a CCW holster, or just a range holster?

thanks Teufelhunden, i'm looking just for range use, not for ccw.
i heard a lot about the fobus, and the Sidearmor is similar to the fobus. not sure about the one with no thumb break , i kind of like it with thumb break. i have a Ruger and an HK under my pillow ;) so i think the ones with thumb break would be a better choice.
so it easy to get the gun off the holster?

I use a Fobus and am happy with it. If you want quality leather, then I recommend Kramer... I also have found that a leather holster for a Sig 229 can be made to fit an XD quite easily..

I have a Fobus Roto and a Bladetech IWB for the XD pistol. I think the Fobus is perfect for range use. The firearm snaps into place and there isn't a real need for a "thumb strap." I don't know how durable the Fobus system is.

I'm going to second George Hill. The G-Code is a top of the line kydex holster. They are slick, fast, modular, customizable, and tough.

Plus you are dealing with a company populated by actual very cool gun nuts.

gudel, I don't know what your level of experience is so I might be preaching to the choir. Avoid floppy fabric holsters like they are the bubonic plauge.

Fabric holsters have one advantage, they are cheap. Other than that they are very bad things. They tend to "flop". They are not solid, they are often not in the same place when you try to reholster them. They offer very little in the way of retention, other than goofy and slow to utilize, slow to reactivate plastic thumb straps. And these are the good ones with reinforced tops, the really crappy ones aren't reinforced and require a two hands to reholster because they collapse once the gun is removed. Plus in my experience the nylon is harder on blued guns than anything else.

Leather or Kydex is the way to go. Leather for style, Kydex for functionality. A good kydex holster will enable you to stand on your head and the gun won't fall out. Yet, when you try to draw it the gun will pop right out.

I've got leather holsters from some of the top holster makers in the business (Milt Sparks and Mitch Rosen) however my serious business holster is a Kydex G-Code (Scott Evans).

I like Kydex because it offers superb retention, it is light, it is thin. My favorite G-Code is the paddle. Rock solid when it is on, yet easy to take off when you need too. Quick to put on if you are just going to run to the store also.

I like the G-Code the best of the Kydex holsters because, 1. The fit is superb, they fit the gun like a glove. 2. They have a sweat guard, to keep you from reholstering your shirt with your gun. 3. Scott is a great guy, and I believe in supporting businesses populated by good folks.

As much as I like Scott... if I didn't like the G-code I wouldn't endorse it. But I truly love these... they are fantastic.
I have 4 holsers that I wear to carry my Beretta. 2 of those 4 are G-codes, and those are the onese I usually end up using. In fact, my very nice leather Safariland Custom Fit holster hasn't been used some time now. Why not? It's a great hoster. Sure it is. But it's also much bulkier and heavier than the G-code holster. For CCW all day long... it's all about the C-code. Heck, If I am going to go out to a ranch out here and be outside and do some shooting, I'll use my G-code REAC rig that Scott gave me. Sure he gave me 1911 REAC rig... but G-codes are modular. Took me but a minute to switch the 1911 over to the Beretta 92 carry. Adjustable tension let's you set it to just how you want it... Tighten it up and you will have little retention problems to worry about. If your at an IDPA event and want it faster... just loosen it up and all the sudden you have a speed rig.

I know a lot of guys think Kydex or Plastic holsters and think FOBUS. You have no idea how good G-code is.
Get one and try it. 44.95 is the suggested retail on them and if that's how much you actually pay for it, don't feel bad at all. They are worth far more than that.

I bought a Comp-Tac Pro Undercover ( www.comp-tac.com ) for my XD-9 and I love it. I like the Sidearmor ( www.sidearmor.net ) also, although it's about $20 more (but seems to have something of a cult following over a www.glocktalk.com). My first Sidearmor is on the way (for a Glock 19). If it is as good as I expect it to be, then I'll get one for my XD. I really prefer a clip, though and that's one thing Sidearmor doesn't seem to have at the moment.
