For a DA/SA I will also suggest the Ruger P90. I wish I hadn't sold mine.

For a single action gun I will suggest the Springfield Mil-Spec. And yes they are throated to feed jhp.

hey - i'm happy with my springfield mil-spec. had to change out the plastic grips, which cracked within a month. the factory mags would not tolerate 200gr semi-wad cutters, but that is not an unusual problem with 1911. got some chip mccormick mags (8 rounds, far fewer feed problems).

had to have the 1911 to fill a niche and find out what the 1911 hoopla was all about. i do like the trigger and the shape, but the weight is something different for a guy used to glocks. if i were looking for a carry pistol in 45acp, i b'lieve i'd to with a glock.

Smith & Wesson-M and P

SW MP would be a great choice. It has a ten round mag. [personally I prefer 12-13 on a .45]. Very nice gun-shoots well and is reliable. I got a .40 at Cabela's for $499.00

The Best to you and Yours!

If you can settle for a single stack 8+1 it doesn't get much better than a Ruger P90 in your price range. Mine is scary accurate.

If you want something a bit slimmer for carry a P345 is an excellent choice, but as others have noted it is a tupperware gun. :)

Whats your reasoning for the metal frame? You can get essentially any XD or Glock for under your 600. And even have money left for a good holster. I would recommend the XD but I know I am unfairly in love with them.

My Springer GI feeds everything, as does my Springer Loaded.
XD's are good, and I love my Glock 21.
