I got a polytech M14s recently and i am scoping it out with a Leapers 5th Gen 6-24X50 green/red illumy mil-dot scope but i haven't picked out the mount get because i am confused. There seem to be only two mounts available for the m14 and one of them wont fit on a polytech M14 because it was made with metric standards and i don't know if the other one WILL fit or not? Anyone got any ideas?

There are lots of mounts for M14s.

If you can find one Brookfield Precision mounts have a reputation for the best. But you will pay for them.

The ARMS #18 is popular, as are the Smith Enterprises.

Then, there is the one that takes the place of the front handguard...I think it's called the RAS Rail System, or something like that.

But there are plenty of mounts availlabel for the M14.

One mount to avoid is the B-Square mount. My first one literally fell apart, the replacement will not hold zero.

I have a 3rd Gen Springfield Armory mount on my M1A and it works very well.

Good luck with that Leapers 'scope.

Use the search function here at THR.

Trust me, it's your friend, really.

The M14 scope mount question comes up about once a month, on average. ;)

Hmm all good but one last question well two really

Thank you all for the info but i am just worried about it fitting on because it said the b-square mounts would not fit polytechs due to a difference in metric standard so i am wondering if the other mounts would have the same problems?

Also people have been telling me i should not have gotten a Leapers scope because they are not reliable on semi-autos. Is this true?

I think it is a mistake to scope a M-14.:cuss:
I really enjoy shooting the best iron sight system around, just as it is.

I kind-of agree.

I really enjoy shooting the best iron sight system around, just as it is.

But not all of us have the razor-sharp eyesight of our younger years. And I do much better at 800-1000 yards with the optics on my own M14NM than I ever did with the original peeps. ;)

i'm having similar issues with my m1a. i've decided to get the sadlak mount. it seems to be a very well designed mount, has three points of contact with lots of adjustment and set screws to hold the adjustment, allows use of iron sights and best of all it comes with an inspection kit that allows you to measure your receiver dimensions so that if you are out of spec you can send the mount back to them for custom machining to make sure it precisely fits your weapon. the mount comes from the factory with original m14 dimensions and i've _heard_ that the chinese m14s have actual m14 dimensions so you might not need any additional machining. anyway, if you do they charge $45 to do it.

Metric BS?

My polytech didn't come with a milled out muzzle surpresser so i had to do that myself and i am thinking of getting a black synth stock for it because the metal is a dark gray parkerized steel. Which would look nice with a black stock and scope. I am just worried that since mine is polytech that i am going to have to get it machined. I found a mount that some marine shooters use and it only costs 40 bucks from Cheaperthandirt.com Just search for M14 mount and you will find it. Let me know what you guys think. BTW I hit the target more at 1000 yards with my Rem 700 than i do at 500 yards...whats with that?

oh another qestion

how hard is it to take out the bolt group when cleaning the rifle with a scope mount on it? Since the bolt has to slid up and out the top it seems it would be very hard to do that with a mount in your way.

To rich for my blood

That thing costs more than my scope. to much for a bunch of metal pieces. I think i will go with the leapers two thumbscrew one:banghead:

That's the price for quality.
