This from Phil Van Cleave, President of VCDL. His diligent efforts and lobbying are greatly appreciated by all us Virginia CCWs.
Congratulations VCDL! The Governor this morning signed HB1516, No changes were made to the bill
by the Governor, it's done.

***NOTE: the new law goes into effect on **July 1st** of this year.
The grand fathered ordinances can remain on the books, but are not
enforceable against permit holders.HB1516 means that cities, counties and *authorities* cannot ban
permit holders from carrying in their parks (either openly or
concealed). That includes the Northern Virginia Park Authority,
LOUDOUN, FAIRFAX, ARLINGTON, *NORFOLK*, WILLIAMSBURG, ROANOKE COUNTY,
NEWPORT-NEWS, PORTSMOUTH, FAUQUIER and any others I might have missed.

It means that cab drivers in Richmond who have a CHP can how have a
concealed handgun in their cabs to defend themselves.

It also means that the Richmond and Norfolk airport gun bans should
not apply to permit holders in the NON-STERILE areas - like the
ticket counters or when picking up or dropping off friends and family.

It also means that if there any other old grand fathered ordinances
that VCDL has not yet discovered that affect permit holders - they
are gone with the wind, too!

This, ladies and gentlemen, is the way the gun laws should be -
simple and uniform.
However, we are not done with preemption. We need to get the same
uniformity for those who open carry without a permit. Permits to
purchase and waiting periods must go. And the grand fathered laws
must be taken off the books to avoid confusion.

Excellent. VCDL seems to be quite effective. Perhaps it will eventually get rid of the restaurant ban.

Perhaps it will eventually get rid of the restaurant ban.
We can surely hope, and it probably will go away in some form next year. I spoke to my Delegate a couple of days ago, and it seems the restaurant owners trade association deliberately bogged down discussions at the eleventh hour over issues like 30% vs. 50% revenue from alcohol sales, and other administrivia. That thing is such a pain. We have to pick where we eat out by discovering whether the place has a liquor license or not!

Good news indeed!

VCDL rocks, even if they do keep drawing the wrong raffle tickets for "my" rifle! :D

I noticed on another forum less than an hour ago Virginia will no longer issue drivers' licenses to illegal aliens.

Cool. Will they also be revoking the licenses currently help by illegals? Probably not...
