I always heard how some pawnshops sell guns and sometimes the owner doesn't know what he has and you could get a great price on a good pistol or whatnot. Anyone ever look in a pawnshop to see what they might have? I remember hearing a couple times on here about someone finding a real gem in one.

I have yet to find a "deal" on a gun in a pawnshop here in Wyoming. Maybe in other parts of the country it is possible, where guns are less sought after.

$350 for a delta gold cup down here in S.A. around about '98, and $300 for a Benelli M1 super 90 in B.F. Ohio in '03.

Sold 'em both when I was between contruction jobs...I should have just had my cable turned off.

Great deals around here, from time to time. The most significant factor is, the pawnbroker isn't depending on marking the guns up above market to make his income, so prices tend to be significantly below those of "gun stores." Don't count on them not knowing what they've got. It happens, though. I bought a gun from a local pawnbroker, and neither of us knew the deal I was getting until later. We still kid about it.

I've seen a number of guns at pawnshops that I would like to own. But I've never bought a gun at a pawnshop because I have yet to either a) see a reasonable price tag attached to it, or b) find a pawnshop owner who was willing to make a reasonable deal. And when I say reasonable here, I'm not talking about some cut-rate, low-ball deal; I'm talking about reasonable.

The last one I saw, a decent-only Walther PP, was at least $375 overpriced. When I asked about even splitting the difference, the guy was offended.

Well, sorry, but so was I.

Friend of mine called yesterday and said a Citori had just come out at the pawn shop down the street. Its the version with the stainless receiver (not sure what that is).

$1299.00.

Didn't seem like too bad of a price. Then again, this is a blue collar town, and the economy is down, so I suppose they priced it to sell.

I have never see a fair priced gun at a pawn shop-- TOOLS- power saws that look like they have built 20 homes selling for about 20$ less than a new one - I go for amusement !

You, use to could.

I have a buddy who owns a pawn shop and now they post them on GB while they have the gun on display. They see the high asking prices on GB and they think they should get that as well

If GB would charge a listing fee, there would be a lot less of the spiked prices on there and in turn at the pawn shops.

I guess there are people that will pay it though.

I've bought 7 new guns since middle of October. Over paid a bit on a .380 and that was just because of where I bought it. Otherwise I paid on average, (yes I did the math) 29% less than the average sell through price than on GB.

that minty ruger sbh 357 rem max is still in the same pawn shop down the street for the same $659 it was two years ago. i really need to go get it.

Pawn shops are nothing but con artists. I was talking to the guy at one around here about trading my pistol for another. When he gave me the price he was willing to pay me, he looked at the lowest used value in the book even though my gun didn't have a single scratch or anything. Then when he told me the price of the gun I was looking at, gave me a ridiculous price, and when I called him on it, he said he'd show me on the computer where the value was listed. He was using MSRP for a brand new one! I left in a fit of laughter.

halfded, that was merely the opening of negotiations. You first said you wanted to trade, then you say he quoted you a price to buy yours. Which was it? Those are not even close to the same thing. At pawn shops, trades are where the best deals are at. Once in awhile, I'll sell a gun to one, once in awhile, I buy a gun at one, but normally it's trade, trade, trade. After lots of haggling, back and forth. Offers, counterproposals, jokes, gossip, more haggling, finally when he's getting ready to close, the final deal gets closed. That's half the fun.

I might take my kentucky rifle to a pawn shop. Maybe I could trade it for something cheap that I'll actually use if I see it. It's a flintlock, only shot once and doesn't have a ramrod since the hickory factory rod broke after loading it for the second time ever using it.

Same here!!!!

I had one trying to sell me a Remmington 700 w/ cheap scope (WalMart package) for $200 more than a new one at WM would have been. However the some guy was gonna let me have a Nordico Mac-90 for $340.00 on NOV 2nd. I probably should have taken that one.

I'm spooked by pawn shops. I worry about where that gun came from! I know the gun shops I deal with are very careful about taking in "used" guns. Maybe your pawn shops are OK, but as I said, Im nervous. We have one here that runs really big ads on TV, but I've never been in even for a looksee.

I picked up a Browning A-Bolt - .270 for $200. A Browning A-Bolt 7mm mag - $325 (sold it for $750 :))
A Stoeger Condor Supreme 12ga - $300. Two doz. 30rd AR15 mags - $10/each.

Deals can be found at them - just becareful and know what you are buying.

Some crack head recentely stole my chainsaw. I've had numerous bicycles stolen from my carport along with other items. Pawnshops are a haven for criminals and they just breed more crime. My neighbor manages a pawn shop and we don't get along at all. I keep asking him if my chainsaw showed up yet. No I don't do business with pawnshops.

Only stupid criminals take their stolen stuff to pawn shops. Smart ones sell them at swap meets and garage sales. Also, a lot of chain pawn shops have corporate books that they use to figure out the value of things. It may not be that the pawn shop guy has anything against you personally when he offers you $40 for your LNIB Glock, it might just be that that's all he's allowed to offer per the book.

I haven't found a deal yet.... but I always keep an eye out...

I was in one about a month ago... some poor guy hard up for cash was trying to sell a couple of semi-auto pistols, from what I could tell they were in very good shape. Not sure exactly what they were but the owner offered him 100 bucks for both of them:what:... the poor guy sold them! :barf:

I was tempted to offer him $200 just out of sympathy but I didn't want to start a beef with a pawnshop that I might buy guns from some time....

Since then I have been very very cautious at pawnshops... they are just waiting to take advantage of somebody.

I found a box with 100 rounds of primed .357 MAX cases for $7 before Christmas. That was one of the things santa brought me this year. :D

Up until the Brady Bill there were some really good deals. Pawning guns became a losing deal as soon as the owner had to pay the $25 for the Brady check to get their guns out of pawn.:what:

I bought a Dan Wesson 8" .357 for $125. A Mossberg 500 for $95. A 1937- 5" S&W Commercial M&P .38 for $200. A Ruger 77, .223 varmint rifle with a Leupold scope for $400.

Turns out, my local Pawn Shop is also a dealer in new firearms. I have become friends with the owners so I generally get great pricing and "out the door" deals.

Lets see...

Unfired Remington .270 w/ Scope = $250

66 SKS = $250

(2) Kel Tec P11's = $500 (brand new)

I could go on but you get the idea...

I have become kind of a friend of a guy who owns a pawn shop and largely deals in guns. I maybe bought 40 or 50 guns through him last year alone. I still couldn't get a good deal on a pawned gun from him. I'd ask every once in a while and it was always more than what I was willing to pay for a used gun.

I was in one a few months back and they had a Colt 1911A1 (if I remember right it said A1) For $435.00. Wish I had the money.
