I'll be headed up to the Boston area for a mini-vacation in September. While I'm there I plan on teaching a dear ladyfriend of mine how to safely handle a handgun. The problem is I'm not able to bring my own Walther P22 (which is an ideal autoloader for training!) into the state without serious legal headaches. In fact, you need an FID card to carry mace! :banghead:

That said, I'm looking for recommendations for a good rifle/pistol range in the Boston area that will rent various small caliber arms. I've never been up that way before but I figure someone on this board has and may have a favorite spot. Anyone? :)

Define "Boston area"

If you wander South from Boston to North Attleborough, you will find an excellent facility called American Firearms School just off of Route 95 at the Rte. 152 exit.

It rents guns, has a regular range (you can even fire rifles and machine guns!), as well as a sim range, where you can use your own gun and live ammo against projected boogie men in various scenarios. It also has events during the year; re-enactors of various periods come, they have a big free cook-out and special rates for trying out the ranges, etc.

Here's the link, if it helps: http://www.americanfirearmsschool.com/

It may fill the bill for you and your lady friend. ;)
