So I went shooting for the first time last weekend at a downtown Los Angeles range. We only shot handguns and it was fun. However, I was thinking of getting into shooting rifles at some point, so some type of starter .22LR is what I'm planning on getting. I'm looking at this week's Turner's Outdoorsman ad, and there is a NIB Ruger 10/22 going for $190. Is that a deal to jump at or not?

Not a bad deal at all. Turners' sales are usually pretty good.

In other parts of the country, you may be able to get that gun for $175 at walmart, but you in LA, that doesnt help you much.

I say get it - a 10/22 is a great first gun.

That is a good price. The ruger 10/22 will only continue to go up in price. The only place you may get it cheaper could be a pawn shop and it will be used.

Sounds pretty decent. They are $197 at Walmart here and that's without tax, and the cheapest place I've seen them. I've seen some used ones for less, but it also seems like quite often guys want $200 + for their used ones which are a rip off when you can get a new one at Walmart for that price. However, it sounds like you will save $20 or so when factoring in tax and still be getting a new gun. If it's an older one with metal parts, instead of the new ones with tons of plastic, it's an even better deal.

Thanks for all the responses; went with my dad and bought it today. Came out to about $238 after all the D.R.O.S. fees and taxes. I could've went with a Marlin 795 for cheaper, but I'll just mod the hell out of this to make it worthwhile. Pictures coming in 10 days after the wait; not sure if I'll necropost this topic or start a new thread.
