Good Shotguns

Hey guys,

I recently posted a thread about what kind of shotgun i should get but it was under ALO426 but every time i have tried to log in it wont work so i made this new account. Now, I'm over the kick factor on guns now because I went shooting yesterday with my grandfather and shot a 20 gauge single shot that was 75 years old and did fine. I also shot a Rossi 410. We were shooting remington target loads. Now, to my question. I need to find a good gun that will last a while that has a reasonable price. I think i want a break action, simple, single shot. I like the New England Pardners does anybody have experience with those? And does the type of shell effect the kick a reasonable ammount?

Get a good low cost Pump Shotgun. You can find a good low cost use pump shotgun. Maverick by Mossberg, New or Used Mossberg 500, Used Remington 870, Marlin NEF Pardner Pump. All of these are very good low cost choices in a pump shotgun.

The NEF single shots are a good beginning gun and can be obtained in about every gauge. As to recoil, the lighter the gun, the more recoil. Bigger bore = more recoil. Bigger shot charge = more recoil. Lots of factors to figure in but good fit, proper form, and a decent recoil pad can produce a good shotgun experience for nearly anyone. Which gauge you get depends on what you are going to do with it. For most things the 20 gauge is a good choice to start with. If you plan on shooting large waterfowl, you will have to consider a 12. HAve a definite plan as to use before you purchase.

I'm not really worried about recoil at all after shooting my grandfathers 20 gauge without a recoil pad. so do you think a 20 is good enough for small game and birds?

A 20 gauge would be excellent for small game and small birds (quail, grouse, etc). A pump action gun will be more useful for hunting purposes due to the fast second and third shots (if needed). But, it's hard to beat the simplicity and ruggedness of a break-action single shot.

Buy whatever you like. You can always buy another gun later.

I still shoot the 20ga that I grew up with. When the doves were really flying, I would shoot it all day and be thankful it was not a 12ga pounding my shoulder. I also won the state junior skeet championship with that gun, and my dad shot a perfect 100/100 with it to win a World Skeet Championship (C-class) 40 yrs ago. The gun is a Remington Sportsman 58 and I also have the 12ga. Although, I'm used to an autoloader, presently I would look at the Mossberg 500. There is a field/security combo with 2 barrels to serve double duty, but I might look first at the special purpose models (with stock and pistol grip) and add a field barrel. Lot of different 12 ga models to suit about any need you have in mind. Less selection with the 20ga so you may have to put together your own combo.

I saw a couple guns made by Rossi? Anyone have experience with them? I shot a Rossi 410. and it seemed pretty reliable.

my cousin has a single shot rossi rifle that ive never had the chance to shoot but i know he likes it. Im personaly a fan of mossberg. You can get a maverick 88 at Wal Mart for $170 i think. I notice u like the .410 tho. My brother shoots a savage .410 pump and is a dead eye with it and doesnt like any other 12ga but mine. I think youd be better off geting a pump or double barrel instead of a single shot. Its ur choice tho. a gun is a gun. they all kill a creature just as dead as the next
