I Love Single Shot Shotguns

I got this 12 ga single shot from my dad when he died last year.

It's called a Nitro King. Research says it was sold by the Sharpleigh Hardware Co. in St. Louis MO. It was likely made by Crescent Arms who made millions of private label shotguns from the 1880s until around 1930. I'm guessing based on the pistol grip style that it was made in the 19 teens.

I also have some H&R singles and barrels..

Here are some of my Singles. A friend turned me on to them. He would buy any single if it was $100 or less. He was really into repurposing long barrel single shots (both shotguns and rifles) into handy trunk, cabin, stash away guns. I've done the same thing over the years and even picked up extra barrels off of ebay back when they were cheap. The bbls are pretty easy to fit.

Here's a $100 NEF 12 ga I picked up just this past April. Yes, cheap ones are still out there.

Here's a $75 H&R 20 ga I bought at a yard sale last summer.

I eventually set one up with 12ga, 20ga, 357 mag and 44 mag bbls

Here are a couple pawn shop 20 ga H&Rs set up with various stocks and cut down rifle sighted bbls. They are meant to be "walk in the woods" guns. The 20 ga guns don't recoil near as bad as the 12 ga ones do. Notice the low hammer on the top gun. Only low hammer I've ever seen on one, though I understand that scoped Handy rifles came with them.

I have and use the Savage single shot .410 my dad bought for me when I was ten years old. After 47 years it still gets a workout as a skunk, venomous snake and dove gun. It is no longer pristine but you will not find a speck of rust on it though the stock is scratched with a few hunting memories.
