I just left a gunshow in Fort Smith, and I got to tell ya that the days of cheap plinking ammo, in my opinion, are over. I ended up buying silver bear .308 because there was no surplus. NOT EVEN ONE ROUND! Ammo dealer says he can't find it. Thank God for our ex enemies the Russians. The silver bear I purchased was $6.50/bx. I also bought all of the surplus 6.5x55 swede that he had (3boxes =60rds.) I guess it is time to start the reloader up. If you know of any surplus ammo at decent prices in Arkansas, would you pm me. I thank you and my collection thanks you.

Well, inflation isn't going to go anywhere. But I've read that there are some wars going on right now, too, which might make bullets and their component parts more expensive as demand is higher.

Maybe eventually that part will change, and the prices will stop increasing so much.

Please pardon my density. I've seen the 'balloon goes up' reference a few times here but don't know exactly what it means. I gather it has something to so with black helicopters, but I'm not sure. Please enlighten me.

The balloon going up is a euphemism for all hell breaking loose. Global war, major, major disaster etc. It was commonly used when talking about nuclear war.

As for that wheel barrow thing......I have no idea.

The wheelbarrow thing, IIRC, is in reference to Gunkid (do a search). He was always spouting off about supressed .22s, tactical assault wheelbarrows (***? I know...), and what he was going to do when the "balloon went up".

"The ballon goes up" probably goes back to the days of barrage ballons. When they went up, an air attack could be expected soon.

By the way. YOUR good times might be over, but I intend to keep shooting. It might not be as much or as often, but I'll enjoy it all the more in that case.
