Someone offered me a 1000rds of Silver Bear 55gr FMJ .223 ammo for $200, I have no experience with the stuff and I'd be feeding it to a Bushmaster AR.

Is this stuff ok for AR's and is it a good deal for some plinking ammo? I did a search and there seems to be plenty of threads about Silver Bear 7.62x39, but how about the .223?

I want to pick up a 1k rounds of something and I don't want to spend a lot of money. I was originally going to buy a 1000rds of Wolf but if the Silver Bear is just as good then I'll take this guy up on his offer.

Is there something better for around $200 that you would suggest over either Wolf or Silver Bear?

I am a little soured on Wolf so I would hope Silver Bear is better. I got 1,000 rounds of Wolf and have had trouble getting it to cycle my AR. And as I have practiced shooting at 100 yards a couple of times, I have gotten good accuracy out of $270/1000 reloads and the wolf is 3-4MOA.

Made by Barnaul, distributed by Glenn Zanders here in Illinois.
I haven't seen anything like the issues with chamber sticking with Barnaul ammo as I have with Wolf.

I have been shooting quite a bit of the Silver Bear and Brown Bear stuff lately since brass case ammunition is becoming all but unaffordable and have had zero functioning issues.
Accuracy could be better but for practice this stuff is far better than nothing.

We sell five hundred round boxes for $119.00 so $200.00 a thousand is reasonable.HTH

I bought a good amount of this stuff from Cheaper than dirt for about $2.50 per 20 rds. I fired about 100rds through my Bushmaster and didn't have any issues, accuracy was about what you would expect from Wolf or anything else in that price range, I was grouping probably about 5" at 100 yds. with open sights. but for less than $3.00 a box it will get the job done. My only gripe was that it came in little boxes with the individual rounds all wrapped in paper, kind of a pain in the but to get out, but I'm just picky.

I picked some up in November... but mine goes into a Saiga .223, no problem.

Usually sells for (500) $119 + shipping... So if you get it for $200... your probably saving yourself ~$50

I've been shooting some of the 62gr HP in my ARs recently. Zinc plated steel. I have not had any issues so far. For cheap plinking ammo, I think you could do worse. I prefer the zinc case to lacquer cases; they just seem to have more lubricity. I've never had problems with Wolf either though, and Barnul also makes a lacquer coated line, though I have never tried it.

Only downside I've found so far, as someone else said, is that accuracy is not the best, expect 4-5" at 100 yards.
