Good use of CCW durring robbery VIDEO

I've read the clerk's own comments about the robbery and the shooting. Though I don't remember the distances involved, he pointed out that the camera angle is deceptive, and the distance between him and the mother with the kiddo is much greater than it appears on video.

That man handled it about perfectly in my opinion. He must be a well trained individual. And to not even miss, that is excellent.

Was that mother in a sound proof bubble or something? When the guy was holding the cashier up she just was like "Whatever" and barely moved out the way. Then when the good guy started shooting at the robber she only backed up little and then looked at the good guy like "what the hell!" What a moron. I mean get your head out the sand.

I happened to see that video about a week ago.
I just finished my 10 hours of class room time this past Saturday for my CHL and the part of the Texas law that says even though you might be right to use force or deadly force in a scenario just like that if you kill or injure an innocent actor by your actions you are liable both criminally and civily.
After covering that specific law in class I thought directly of this very video.
Frankly I am glad the thug was stopped from his wanton criminal and deadly behavior but that clerk really is a lucky man that in the melee someone else did not get shot.

Although the woman is being second guessed as a moron and a zombie my take on it is she probably has never been in a seriously violent encounter and went into shock.
I have seen similiar reactions of men in a street fight not truely defending themselves because they never truely physically fight or have not been trained to fight.
If you have been trained to fight you generally go into automatic.
Which also makes me think that the clerk has had some sort of gun fight training.
He certainly did shoot well didn't he.

At first glance I thought he was way to close to the kid and firing on the retreating suspect is almost excessive force.

HOWEVER, looking at the sizes of objects in the video and the angle, I think she was much farther away than originally thought. Second I think every shot, the BG and the clerk was done within :33 and :34. So in less than a second you have the BG shooting (not this is what we can SEE), he may have been shooting at the floor for all we know from this video. The clerk also stopped at 3 as soon as the BG was to the door as opposed to emptying a clip through the door at the guy.

Under those circumstances hitting 3 out of 3 shots is impressive. IMO, appropriate level of force, and thankfully everything turned out OK.

As for the woman with the kid, I am betting she was just in total shock. Which is why she was acting like she did.

If the little girl was unphased, it was probably because her hearing had completely shut down after the first round was fired.

I find it extremely easy to second guess these shooters, their situations, and their decisions, from the comfort of my keyboard. I've got several minutes here to pick apart the split second decisions that were made. I would hope that if I'm unlucky enough to fire my handgun on a BG, I can do so many things right that no Monday-Morning-Armchair-Quarterback could find fault with any of my moves.
