Okay, so I'm sitting here feeling sorry for myself since I can't shoot and my mind is wandering around a question. I know that a .357 revolver can be modified to take moon clips, but can it be loaded normally after that if need be? And, does anyone make a 5 shot moon clip. Seems like it would be a great seller with as popular as the J-frame has gotten.

Okay, so it's possible, can anyone recommend a smith who can do the work on a Taurus? I'm pretty good with my hands, but I think this is probably best left to an expert.

Im not sure about aftermarket conversions, but each of my two SW Performance Center guns that came with moonclips can easily be used without them. Actually, I rarely use them for casual shooting though I see where they would be great for competition. There is no headspace problem that I have ever noticed. The way they are cut, the rim is still able to catch. I know theres a better way to explain it, but the words escape me now.

Mike

In the case of simply recessing the cylinder, you are correct. To use both there must also be a ridge inside to headspace the rounds and you then will only be able to shoot 357s without the moon clip.

In most cases, unless a cylinder is designed to headspace the cartridge from an internal ridge, you can't get both.

Mike,

The moonclips do not wrap completely around the brass. The recess is cut just outside the moonclip radius leaving a support ridge around the perimeter of the cylinder.

I have both factory and after market moonclip setups and regularly use moonclip, speedloader and individual rounds. Have to do individual rounds when I am trying to force myself to conserve ammo and concentrate on skills.
