Google SHOPPING to Censor Firearms Related Shopping Results

I also wondered what happened a couple days ago when I was shopping for 1-4x scopes and suddenly my google shopping searches wouldn't turn up ANYTHING.

However, it looks like bing shopping is just about as good as google used to be. I might as well start using them for everything else, too.

I am really glad there is already a market alternative, so I don't have to wait for one to develop (which it inevitably would any time there is a lack of supply for that great of a demand).

It suits me fine, really... google shopping had recently started turning up a lot of Chinese scam websites with temptingly-low prices on high end optics. It doesn't look like bing shopping has that problem.

for a search engine I use DuckDuckgo. A bonus is they are very privacy minded (they don't track you unlike Google/Yahoo). I never used google shopping so I can't help out there, but for maps I use mapquest.

This COULD be considered restraint of trade, which would violate various Federal laws. It's getting to a point where these search engines are going out of their way to block lawful business, and have positioning to do so. Even as a private entity, they could still be subject to laws against interfering with lawful business.

The problem is that 99% of the sites you visit, including THR, use Google in one form or another (Google Ads in this case). Google will still get revenue from you if you even visit a site that has Google Ads embedded. I use all of Google's free features, because I figure if my browsing pays for them, then I ought to use them.

Yahoo shop searching does the same thing - I think they probably had a similar policy in place a long time ago.

Netscape / AOL has the same thing - no firearms come up when searching for prices.

The only major search engine that still returns firearms in shopping searches in Bing.

I'm no shopper extrordinaire by any stretch but I just changed my homepage from goofle to bing.

If you want a Barrett, or any other firearm that the company hasn't jumped through all the approval hoops, in California you may not purchase one there. Magazines that have more than a 10 round capacity have the same issues there and elsewhere. Those state restrictions exclude some firearms and items from being legal in all 50 states. Anything legal in all 50 states wouldn't have the problem so I don't know why there would be the broader issue.

I was doing a Google search to find relative prices for many firearms and no firearms would come up.

FAL prices come up so I don't know why some of us are not seeing prices while I haven't had any problem. I did notice that my zip code popped up in the Google Shopping search and I've never seen that before (but I've never been looking intently at the page either).

It is funny, there is no way to contact them other than phone. Google, does not have an email to contact them...lol. I wanted to email them and tell them if they are going to censor firearms, please censor porn and anything else that is inappropriate. They should censor curse words , any violence, drugs, alcohol, and video games. (note, this is sarcasm)

I boycotted Bank of America because of what they did to McMillan, I truely hope this has repercussions on google too. I will boycott all google powered phones tablets and compurt software. I had a lng standing relationship with BoA, and decided to end that. I urge others take the same actions against Google.

Its just sad that a company that fights for freedom on the web as such as Google does would censor their own shopping site.

They don't fight for freedom, they fight for profit, the whole SOPA/PIPA thing was because they make money off of piracy searches and they dont want to pay for content to drive their searches so they try and acquire as much for free(look at the google books settlement issue or YouTube). They do censorship around the world all the time without "breaking the Internet" because they want to make money from being in those countries.

This isn't about Google's search engine and folks that continue to post pages from standard Google searches are waaaaayyyyyyy off target.

The issue is about Google Shopping, entirely separate for Search.

If you look for Google Shopping and put in the Barrett Rec7, a firearm that does not qualify for sales in AWB states, you will get numerous results (10 in the first offering). This in spite of the fact that the current Google AdWord policy says firearms promotion are not permitted. How is it that Google Shopping shows me plenty of Barrett Rec7 opportunities to purchase if this is somehow supposed to stop Shopping from doing this? Perhaps we don't understand what it actually means?

I guess we'll have to see what that same search brings tomorrow on July 1 before we'll actually know what this means since Google hasn't reacted/responded to the numerous concerned contacts.

I have used Goodsearch.com for years now and have never felt that I missed anything. Click the product tab to go to Goodshop and no problems on firearm related searches. They also let you designate a cause that gets a donation from your searches. I raised over $3 for my church's school this year with searches. If google doesnt want guns, then move on totally.

On the Walmart site?????

In any case, it's only Google Shopping. If you search for "gun XYZ for sale" you'll still get lots of hits and choices.

Google Sale

Perhaps the Google policy reflects the advice of their legal department? In our litigation crazed society, maybe they just made that decision not to advertise sales of weapons in their SALES department (please note emphasis) to minimize their exposure to law suits? Their search engine seems to work fine for every weapon I want to learn about (including where I can buy one!)

Yahoo shopping is still working, I did a quick shop for "Nosler Bullets" and it showed up fine.

I have noticed that it is only on some "hot topic" guns such as AR 15's. I read that they are censoring weapons that are considered "assault type". Here is my AR 15 search.. It comes up empty on Bushmaster ACR, Barrett 82A1...etc

And no, it isnt Spilled Milk, I could care less. I used to use Google Checkout for business, and used Google to find the best price on firearms. It seems to only be certian weapons, but that is where it starts.
