Repeat after me. Michael Crighton writes..fiction. FICTION. F-I-C-T-I-O-N.

Do you get your tactical ideas from Steven Segal movies, too?

Have you ever read State of Fear, including the Afterword?

Have you ever read or heard Crichton's speeches and testimony?

Do you have any real education (e.g. college degree) in this stuff?

I can say "yes" to all three. And I'd suggest a perusal of Crichton's website. It's not fiction, it's a presentation of science for the lay reader, and it's some good stuff.

The problem with this stuff is the same as the problem with gun control research publications: politically-motivated people cherry-pick studies and ignore all the evidence that refutes or calls into question their findings. It's not off-topic at all, for those of us who see this strong parallel.

I'd like to live one day without paying for Gas; I'd love to have a solar car. I wouldn't mind having a speed limit of only 55mph. Heck, with all the money I'd save on fuel, I'd be able to buy a gas car and just keep it for the rare times I'd need a powerhorse.

I'd like to live without paying the lights bill; there's a heck of a lot of roof on my house, and sunlight's free. LCD tv, ground-insulated fridge, fluorescent lights. I should probably sleep more, anyway.

I'd like to live without gas heating. biomass fuel blocks could fuel a nice stove or oven, street-communal biomass fuel block heating. combustion could be trapped, tossed out. to tell the truth, we hardly even use heating. true, I live in cali right now where winter is only 32F at worst, but when I was growing up in NY i remember huddling in blankets for warmth - no heat then, either.

Okay, why don't you stop using gas and drive 55 MPH volluntarily. Then you can try to start a movement to influence people to choose that for themselves. Don't start trying to pass laws to take away my freedom to do whatever the hell I want.

How much pollution would burning "biomass fuel blocks" produce? It would produce a great deal more than using natural gas. It would produce a lot more than a natural gas fired power plant with govt mandated pollution controls. It would be almost as bad as everyone burning wood in fireplaces 24 hours a day.

Also, how much of that LA pollution is coming over from China?

I know you have dreams of this stuff, but think of where more modest environmental laws and capitalism have gotten us? Houston and LA are much nicer than they were 30 years ago. They will continue to get better. They won't get better if the leftists do everything they say they want to do.

Brainwash would be a better term.:neener:

I read a short section in a military history book a while back on Hannibal's crossing of the Alps into Italy to attack Rome. There was a debate on which route he took to cross the Alps. Appently, there were 3 different passes. However, the author pointed out there was a cooling trend in that area of the world at the time. There was a great deal more ice and precipitation in the mountains. There was actually a lot more rain and such in Greece and Italy as well which suggested they had relatively more natural resources then than they do now. They weren't as arid as they are now. This meant that only the lower pass was open for Hannibal to get to Italy. The author also theorized that this was what forced many of the barbarian people's to move South and encroach upon Roman lands as much as they did.

Not directly related to Global Warming, but it is neat the things you read sometimes.
