Got a Kirst for my ROA today

It was anticlimactic...I was ready for all kinds of fitting issues, especially since my ROA had an action job. Nope. Just a brain dead drop in and it works. I'll let you know how it shoots.

How do conversions work?

With the R&D,you roll out your percussion cylinder,and roll in your cartridge cylinder,with the Kirst,you put in the backing plate containing the floating firing pin,then roll in your cylinder,at least with my Remmies.

With the ROA I put the back on the cylinder and then just dropped the whole thing in; making sure that the firing pin is at the 12 O'clock position. I'm not sure how you could screw this up.

Both the Kirst and the R&D seem like very well made products. However, I went with the R&D because I didn't want to even have to think about the 12 o'clock alignment requirement of the Kirst.

Do you just remove the plunger and loading lever? Pictures? Cost?

ROA conversion

Just remove the plunger, the loading lever will hold the cylinder pin in place with the catch spring, so you don't need to turn the latch. Of course, you could leave off the loading lever, but you would need to keep a screwdriver handy to turn the latch, or solder on a paddle to turn it with your fingers.

You don't have to remove the plunger and lever. You can keep it all together but it obviously doesn't get used. I bought a Belt Mountain pin to use with my conversion cylinder just to make it look a little purdier. Pics of an ROA with a R&D cylinder can be seen here.

As far as costs: $228 for the R&D conversion cylinder and $31 for the Belt Mountain pin were my delivered cost as purchased about a year ago. You can use your Ruger pin though if you'd like.
