I got a new barrel for my Winchester 1200 today off Ebay. I got an 18.5" cylinder bore. Boy does it transform the gun from its original 28 incher. I've gotten into Trap shooting and am looking at getting a trap gun and plan to use the Winchester for HD and possible three gun work.

My question is, can I put slugs through this barrel? Will the cylinder bore have problems with slugs, or possibly be damaged in any way? I don't intend a lot of them, but would like to play a bit.

No modern shotgun barrel I know of will be damaged from shooting modern slugs. That's if you're using the correct length shell.

As to accuracy, the older Forster style slugs and the Brennekes are candidates. The sabot types are for rifled barrels.

Most folks can do OK out to 50 yards with slugs and a bead.

See the thread, Slugs 101, for some input.
