Well as consistant with my habbit these days I mentioned to a pretty young gal in one of my classes that she should join the Trap and Skeet club. Got the usual reply "I've never shot a gun before" Gave my standard answer "Well, there's no time like the present to try"
"Ok, it sounds like it would be fun" Now we are getting somewhere.
So thursday I pick her up and take her to the range.
Started off with the usual saftey, form, ect, etc, to explain the basics. Well the trap range was booked pretty solid so we decided to try skeet first. I know, I know, not always a good thing but what the heck.
In simple words, this was the most inexperienced shooter I've ever worked with. Not only had she never shoot a gun before, it was obvious she had never heard one. Thats ok, I'm patient and had along my 390 and some light loads of number 8s. Well skeet was trying for my part. Little by little we worked on swing and proper form. I should mention we only shot singles, no doubles yet. About station 3 or 4 the first target broke. A smile broke out. 4 or 5 more targets broke by the end of the round. Things are starting to look up. The heads staying down, body position is improving, and the swing is smoothing out.
Now its on to the trap field. Swapped the skeet choke for I.C., same light loads of eights. Some work of form and probably 10-12 broken clays later, we have a new shooter was born.
I had shot along with her on skeet. Didn't do too bad, 22 with dropping one on low 7, still not real consistant there from the hip. After trap, I borrowed a nova to see if I could still grind the clays with a pump gun. Found out that after a year of shooting an auto that I've slowed down a tad, but I am not all that slow.
By now its about 9 P.M. so I pay the tab and take off. Before I drop her off I ask if she would like to go again sometime. I figure its a good sign when the reply is "Sure......that is if you will take me....?" Then comes the best part, when she goes "Oh, BTW how do you recomend I break it to my parents?"
I love college

She should tell her parents that she is getting a large tattoo on her forearm, of a snake, her new fiance suggested it, he is an unemployed musician of another race, she is pregnant with twins, and they are going to marry on Tuesday at his motorcycle club monthly meeting. She is changing her college major to specialize in middle eastern religions.

After the paramedics revive them she should tell them if they disaprove she will settle for joining the NRA and getting a few guns
