I thought about doing this myself, but I am glad I didn't. Alex Hamilton actually lives just down the street & I dropped the slide off for him yesterday. He called last night to say the factory front sight was extremely tight & it would probably be toast by the time he got it off. While the factory rear came off OK, the new Heine slipped on loosely a rattled free in the dovetail. Alex had to work his magic to modify both front & rear dovetails to hold the new sights. I asked him if he thought Heine sent the wrong sights & he said no way; the Springfield slides just have variences in the way the dovetails are cut. For my Springer friends, this may not be a mod to try at home.

If u think XD's are hard to remove the sights, u ought to try to remove the kahr sites. Trust me without a sight pusher too, it just cannot be done and then even some tools fail. I have no idea why there in there like they are but I bet your XD doesn't lite a candle to a kahr as far as tightness goes.

by the way those sites are awesome.. Make su wonder why XD just doesn't put those site sonin the first place and add the price, most knowledagle shooters would understand and appreciate it.. My 2 cents worth.

I agree completely; I ordered these direct from Heine ($124.00 + shipping) and paid Alex $45.00. Figure Springfield could probably source these sights direct from Heine for half that, and at no additional labor cost as the install is the same as the stock setup. Wound up costing me $180.00 when Springfield could have offered it to me for likely a $90.00 upcharge. We should write letters.

you'd still have the additional work of putting them in and removing the original sights (i think they still need the sights to be imported)...or i guess you could ship them to Croatia to be installed at the factory

Well, according to Springfield's own website, you can purchase XD's with night sights already on. You might not find them sitting in your local guncase, but if you had them order directly from Springfield, it shouldn't be a problem.

In fact, I'm thinking I might try and do that if I end up going for the XD9 subcompact. In the meantime, I sent my slide in to Springfield with a set of XS 24/7 Big Dot sights to have put on, so we'll see how it goes.

My PT1911 came with the Hiene straight 8's and i love them. Now everytime i shoot my G20 side buy side with my 1911 i shoot way high with the glock.I havent figured out why yet,but its me and not the gun that has the issue. But i have much better groups on the 1911 than i do with the G20 that has a 5" .40 target barrel on it.
Ive since heard Taurus is putting Novacs on the PT1911 now.

Yes, but not the Heine's. I guess it may be a contractural conflict for Heine w/ the Taurus using the Straght-8's on a few products.

Yes the Heinie's. Maybe not on an XDm which I belately realize is what you had them put on, but I know atleast for the Subcompacts you can pick a model that has them already on like the XD9842HCSP06 .40S&W.

Even with an XDm, if you ordered directly from them you should be able to have them put them on since they're listed in the custom workshop. Regardless, I'm going off an a semi-tangent, and you're right it would be nice for the XDm to have night sights as standard.

Problems installing aftermarket sights on XD's is nothing new. XD forum has been discussing that for 3 or 4 years. At least that's when I first saw it.
I guess if I wanted new sights I'd ship the gun back to SA and have them do it.

I don't see how, as they are not from Heine himself, they are copies under contract. It is now different than the people out there making Novak copies under contract.

Can't find a pistolsmith here in New Mexico to install XS Big Dots on my XDm,9mm. Noticed you sent in your slide to Springfield shop for install. Have you received the slide back as yet, and are you happy with the install? I was told that the cost to install would be $65.00 plus shipping and if any modifications to sight mounts had to be done there would be additional charges. Is this in line with what you paid?
Thanks

AKElroy I installed Meprolights on my XD-It took about 4 hours total-the majority of which was spent removing the old sights. I finally managed to beat the rear one out with a 2 pound hammer & a brass punch. The front one wouldn't budge-it just sat there & wadded up. I wound up cutting it to get the tension off-this was very slow process for me because I was trying to make sure I didn't cut my slide. I got it done but I believe now if I had it to do again I'd get a 'smith to do it. I had a guy that was supposed to that time but when his pusher couldn't budge them he stopped fooling with it-then he spent about a week figuring out what to do-I lost patience & went & got my gun back & did it myself. This was on a XD-40

yeah i have put xs sights on many glocks in my day, so i figured i would put them on my xd, wow what a pain, i tried and i had to take it to the gunsmith and he did it up right.

Great photos. Not sure you need the loader with that particular model. Nice watch!

Just seems to me if you practice with the oem sights you probably would shoot just as well using an aftermarket set. But then I have six XD's so I couldn't afford aftermarket sights anyway. :)
