Bought @chez323 Mk III Hi-Power off THR classified section. Even though it’s a 91 model it looks like new. Shot it today for the first time with my hand loads. Very comfortable, very accurate and I’m very happy.

I’ve always wanted one and when I heard there would be no more made I started keeping an eye out.

You've done very well for yourself! That's one fine looking Hi-Power! Let us know how it does at the range.

Crap, I have one of each now

Bwaha - give it time... I have bought and sold several of each, though I confess I have more CZs than anything right now. Can't go wrong with either. On the HP side, I started with an old Argentine FM, modded it way too much, and worked my way from there to a Mk III. Currently still have both. Enjoy yours!

I also have a commercial Hi-Power that was made in the early 1990s. Mine has been very reliable. The only modification I've made is installing an LPA adjustable sight on it.

They are nice shooters.

I've managed to resist the urge to collect Hi-Powers from the various manufacturers.

Impressive "Wheel of Hi-Powers" you've got there! Like the vintage T-Series up near the top!

Is it impolite to ask how much?

Nature Boy,

Congratulations on joining the BHP club. You are going to enjoy that pistol immensely. I bought one of the same vintage from the same seller, perhaps five years ago. With minor modifications and a re-bluing, it is one of the nicest heaters in the weapons locker. I'm not surprised on your first findings of the ease of shooting and the accuracy.

It is true that there are no more BHPs in the pipeline. FN's machinery has worn out and the production line closed. In the not too distant future, those people who were complaining about a $600 used BHP will be moaning about not picking one up when it was possible.

Have you found Stephen Camp's (Peace Be Upon Him) BHP website? There's a treasure trove of fact and opinion from a BHP Jedi there. I revisit it often.

PM me direct if you wish more info on exactly what I did to my BHP.

Happy Shooting,

Had the opportunity to buy a NOVAK built BHP 20 yrs back....IIRC it was $550 or maybe $600 at the time. Came with 5 mags and a Milt Sparks OWB rig.
SO HAPPY I snagged it and KEPT it. It is 100% reliable, every control works with near Swiss precision, etc. FEW things in life as nice as a superbly executed 1911, BHP or Colt/Smith revolver.

Congratulations on a WISE purchase.

Thanks it is actually a pre T series with and internal extractor. IIRC 1964. Missing from the photo is a 1973 C series that is stock except for the grips which is about 95%. I used to have another MKIII that Don Williams worked on by my sister in law liberated from me. My best friend also managed to talk me out of a Novak MKII I had. I am considering sending the forged MKIII in the pic, which is currently stock, to Yost to get a full house custom but I have a few CZs that are on their way or at CGW so it might have to wait.

WVSig,

That's one heck of a beavertail on the BHP at the two-tone at the 7 o'clock position.

Yeah it is a T Series that Bob Cogan of APW Cogan worked on. It has a S&W revolver adjustable rear sight on it. It has very nice trigger in the 4lb range. It is the only BHP I own that has a beavertail.

Very nice! I had a T-Series from 1966; beautiful to look at but not so much fun to shoot.

I shoot the pre-T but you have to be careful because the extractors are prone to breakage. Jack first makes them now but you are a looking at $90 and not and simple install. Still I shoot it because well I shoot everything. LOL The trigger is decent but not as nice as some of the others in the pic.

For you Hi-Power experts, what is your opinion of the magazine safety? I’m not sure I understand the purpose.

I am no expert but it come out of all of my BHPs. It was including in the original spec for the pistol by the French. IMHO it is a solution looking for a problem.

On an MKIII of your vintage you have to remove the trigger most of the time to remove it. You have to drive out the trigger pin and it only comes out left to right IIRC. Older MKIIs, Cs and Ts you cant just remove the small retaining pin in the trigger, move trigger bar over and pop it out.

There are tons of YouTube videos showing you how to do it but be careful some of the pins are very hard to drive out and many people have marred their pistols removing the trigger pin.
