Well.. there wont be much left of a squirrel.

Savage 10FP LE2 - .308 (7.62x51)
-26" Heavy Barrel

It's pretty heavy compared to a .22.

A gun store that I went to a few times, looking for a .223 Rem Model 700. And then later looking for the .223 Savage, or .308.

Well, the owner, each time I came in there, would try to sell me a differant gun, other than the one I wanted. He would hand me this rifle, and that rifle, and try to tell me this and that about how hard it will be moving around, and lifting a rifle with a heavy barrel, especially a 26".. Im not exactly weak, so to me a 10lb+ gun isnt bad at all.. (8.75 stock, I plan on putting a bi-pod, and ofcourse a scope on it, and maybe a sling)..
Well, man, that does get annoying, when you know what you want, and someone is basicly trash talking the rifle because they may not like it..

Well, I didnt buy the gun from him, ofcourse.. I was about to tell the guy, hey, well if you like those other rifles so good, then why dont you buy them.. (Kinda silly, because he was the gun store owner) ..

Sure, I know the guy has experiance and everything, but I got talked into buying the Remington 710 like that, because I knew very little of the rifle then, and I allowed myself to be talked into it..

Well not this time.. I made my mind up, after first seeing the rifle at a gun store, and checking out the awesome adjustable trigger, which is very crisp, I decided to take a look at it online.

At the store, the guy was telling me how come these guns are relitively cheap. You are basicly paying for the barrel, trigger, and reciever. They just throw the cheap stock on there so you have somthing to shoot.. And yes, its kind of cheap, but it will do for now.. I didnt have 900 to drop on the gun at this time, and I only had to pay around 300, over the selling cost of my old 710 30-06..

Well, anyway, I went online, and found out how pleased people were with theirs. The out of the box accuracy is supposed to be very very awesome, and it can only get better with a new stock..

I chose the .308 over a .223 because .308 is cheap enough where I can go shoot a target once in a while, and maybe decimate some small game, or maybe even take down some larger game.

At first, I wanted a Mini-30, but prices were a little higher, and then to gain any accuracy it would cost much more.

So here I am, with my new .308 heavy barrel, a big smile on my face, and Im ready to go shootin.. Just gota let the weather clear up (Wisconsin)..

And I gotta get some Lo-profile scope rings, these other ones, that have the peek holes for iron sites wont cut it.. ..

Well you sure do have to stick to your guns when you want one thing and the gun shop owner wants to sell you what he has!

Savage is well known for making a really accurate rifle. I think actually changing the stock is slightly over rated until you are looking for a last fraction of an moa's difference.

You can sure reach out with a 308!

I'm going to be moving to Laramie Wyoming in October, I hope be able to find some nice spots for long range varmint, or even some of the local game that we dont have here in Wisconsin..

I'll only be a short hop, skip away from Colorado, what kind of shooting can I expect there?

MoNkEyZQ8 if you can take that back and get a mosin-nagant. Theyre only about 100 bucks, fires 7.62x54mm, solid and accurate (used by snipers in USSR first and second WW). This is the weapon the sniper in Enemy at the Gates is using. Great weapon and a great deal.

Well, today we went and bought some Lo-pro rings, got the scope all mounted up.. Its a 3.5x10x40 Tasco High Country scope..

Then went and got a Harris Bipod, and a box of Federal 150 Grain Nosler Ballistic Tipped ammo..

Me and my friend went and sighted it in, not using a bench, just sitting on the ground using the bi-pod.

For targets I just drew a square in the middle of some old printer paper. It took about 5 shots, and on the 6th shot, I shot, and I was like.. Did I even hit it? On closer inspection, I hit the square so perfectly in the middle, that it was even on all sides..

So I let my friend shoot a few rounds, and damn, does this gound sound cool.. Its got some power too..

It was getting a little darker out, and I was watching the muzzle flash, and it looks like a little flame.. The flash on his AK is huge, compared to this..

So all in all, Im pretty impressed..

Im want to get a BSA 8-32x50 scope, so I can really pinpoint these rounds..

Im gona go bench target it in with that then.. but today was fun!

I suspect, you'll find more many more oppotunities in WY.

Go to AIM surplus http://www.aimsurplus.com and look for Portugese surplus NATO 7.62 x 51mm. If you can't get Port, get Aussie or Brit or ANYTHING OTHER THAN INDIAN! 7.62 x 51mm NATO is the same (or close enough as to make no difference in my M14, someone correct me if I'm wrong about using it in the Savage) as .308, and it's way cheaper.

I've been looking at that Savage off and on for the past couple months, glad to hear how well you like it, I might have to break down and get one!
