I hit all the Walmart stores, over 15 of them, locally and couldn't find any of the closeout rifles.

I hit Basspro for a Ruger 6869, but it was the old model with the rotary clip.

Damnit, I had SWMBO all talked into letting me have a new rifle and couldn't find anything.

All the bolt guns I have are heavy barreled 308 or 223. I wanted something different.

Yeah, those are the deals I have to “forest gump” upon or just be at the right place at the right time.

More likely to find a needle in a haystack if you decide you want to lay down than if your looking for one.

I used the website someone posted to check the ones in driving distance from me vs the truck and diesel. ;)

I did the same. But they were all gone. I really want a bolt 300 Blackout. The Ruger 6869 uses AR mags. That's a huge plus in my book.

Even though I’m not a bolt gun guy I went out looking to maybe find an Axis I could chop up and play with.

No dice. Not a huge deal. I was on the way somewhere any way and happened to cross paths with two of them.

Heck, one Walmart near me has a R700 ADL 243 for $99. That's about the pert near perfect rifle I've been looking for at a price that's impossible to pass up.

But we're trying to get out house squared away and on the market for a cross country move. All our spare money's going into preping the house or getting ready to haul all our stuff a few timezones away. Plus it's a Walmart a few towns over so I don't even really have the time to make a trip over there (or be lolly gagging around on here for that matter. I'm supposed to be resealing the driveway.)

There are several website that have stock checker applications for the big box stores. You cannot just walk in and say something " I want'me onah dem dar claracne rifle you got" and if you do the clerk is going to say they do not have any or that Walmart does not clearance rifles. Instead, take a photo or screen save on your fancy smart phone or computer, take a photo from the computer screen or some similar method of the SKU and bar code for the SPECIFIC item and then walk up to the clerk with the price/inventory gun they tote about and have them scan the bar code or punch in the SKU. They may say it was just sold (possible), they may say it is on (NICS) hold or they may say they are to tired and lazy to go look (in which case ask for or call the store on that smart phone and ask to speak to the manager) but most times they will go and look and pull it for you. Not all employees have access to the vault. I got two Axis IIs and one Remington 700 7mmRM in that way. That is three useful caliber rifles for the price of one. The bad news is the clearance inventory is about gone or is gone. Several Walmarts near me have brand new inventory, mostly Savage and CVA rifles on the shelf and they are not on sale yet. For example, CVA in .300 Legend:

The manager at Cablela's told me the clearance was because Walmart was leaving the sporting rifles market, that must explain the full cabinet behind the CVA in the photo above of new rifles, in fact, more selection than Cabela's has and at better prices!

I realize all that. Several of the stores had sold the rifles before I got there that day. Many of the stores had rifles on hold. Believe me, they were all tired of getting asked about clearance rifles.

All of the rifles I purchased had tags on them from 2018, the wood stocked Axis with scope was $344 then. I was told the clearance models are ones they are no longer going to carry.
