Got my Star BM

Ordered Saturday the 23nd from J&G, it was shipped Monday late in the day, picked up today 28th
at my FFL. I am very happy it looks better than the pictures, cycle and dry fires ok, magazine disconnect works, firing pin is the right length. I need to clean up and oil with CLP, and test fire into my bucket o sand. Tested fine, turned out to be also a bucket o bricks underneath. Maybe go to the range tomorrow.

Looks great, nice soft shooting 9mm. Be careful dry firing without a snap cap. My understanding there could be dammage done.
I have a few and they work well I do shoot alot of lead reloads out of them without a problem. I get some raz from my shooting buddies about them but they stop when they hit steel consistantly.
IMHO they are easy to make accurate and great to tinker with. I used one to practice adjusting the frame, slid rails, and bushing before I built a 1911.

Yes... you need to drift the rear sight out, and remove the retaining pin. Then when the firing pin and spring fly out across the room. You will spend the rest of the night looking for it. Ask me how I know.

My former 9mm BM might have preferred the heavier 124-grain bullets for reliable extraction/ejection functions, instead of the 115-grain bullets used in the cheap "range quality" Winchester White Box ammo.

That was my seasoned gun smith's suggestion (incidentally, he was infantry in Vietnam).

Had I been a 1911 type guy, versus already used to DA/SA, I gladly would have kept that Star.

Looks to be in pretty decent shape. With a little bit of a clean up it should be ready to go! Let us know about the first trip to the range.

Another of the most underrated, under the radar yet best pistols ever made. Yeah, the sights are tiny, the trigger can be hard, but they're typically reliable and as accurate as they need to be. (Caveat: I'm a closet Star fanboy from way back)

Range time today, 50 deg F and rain in the morning. Should be 18 on the target at 20 feet or so. Damn Aim Surplus is sold out on that Wolf ammo!!

Your grip panels are in better shape than the ones mine came with. The bluing on mine was fine so when I replaced my grips with walnut grips, it turned out well. I haven't tested mine for accuracy yet. All I know is that it cycles 124gr S&B 9mm FMJ and powder coated WW TC 124gr cast reloads just fine.

Replacing firing pins is not an easy task.

I am an amateur gunsmith, meaning I watch a real gunsmith on You-tube and follow him. It is not that hard to replace a broken firing pin on one. The problem is finding an OE firing pin to replace it with.

I bought my Star BM from J&G and it made light strikes. I measured it and it was out of spec. I notified them and they sent me one to trade for the original one. The fact that they wanted the old one in return told me they were scarce.

If you look at it there is a semicircle cut out of the shank where it looks less than 1/2 as strong as it would be without the cut-out.
