My local FFL always matches or beats Buds prices anyway so I'll continue to keep my business in my local community and Buds can keep their overpriced R1.

Does you local FFL match Bud's price regardless of the transfer fee? Mine will match Bud's price but tack on an extra $30 that would be applied if transfered.

I ended up using the money I got from my friend for the R1 to buy this Colt MKIV Series 70 set up for bullseye shooting, it was $600 so I think for the price I will be much happier with the Colt.

My friend did take out the R1 yesterday and put 100 rounds through it. He said he liked it a lot and had no issues with it. I'm glad he's happy with it so I think it's a win, win situation for the both of us!

Here's my Colt.....

GI-style 1911s aren't my cup of tea, but you take some awesome pictures!

Honestly I never really quote Buds prices to him. It seems he normally doesn't stock what I'm looking for so I just always ask what kind of price he can get me on the particular firearm I'm looking for. He quotes me a price and it's usually right there with Buds, give or take $10.00 either way. Transfer fee is rolled into his quote apparently because there's never an additional charge for that.

I don't beat him up on price and even if he quoted me $30 or so dollars over Buds price I'd buy from him in a heartbeat. He's just a small place but been around 30+ years and is a real gentleman!

I guess he doesn't feel the need to have a large markup. Knowing his prices though and places like Buds is an eyeopener to how much markup some of these places are getting away with. I've even asked him before if he was making any money and he just smiled and said I'm making enough, I love doing this anyway so we're good. :)

Nice Colt nwilliams!

It does seem like you dumped that R1 in a hurry.

So confess, what was it you didn't like about it?....Just thinking out loud but couldn't you have sent your buddy to where you bought it and him get one for $575 also?

It just seems maybe you had 2nd thoughts after purchasing it, to get rid of it so soon?.....Didn't think the quality was up to snuff, after checking it out more thoroughly and had a golden opportunity to unload it??

No?....Come on now tell us what you really think of the R1. :)

When the dust settles, that's all that really matters anyway.

Rrrrrrrrr 1

I didn't want to wait and got one at Gander Mountain ($669). My FFL charges $50 plus every time I buy a gun from Bud's they nick me $20 or so for using a credit card, so really it wasn't that much more then the original $575 price when you add it up.
I took it to the range today and ran 100 rounds through it. All I can say to all you 1911 guys is I GET IT NOW! :D

When I was at the gun shop looking at the R1 they also had the Colt and I was really torn between the two. I knew that my buddy was looking at the R1 and the price seemed really good so I figured at the very least if I changed my mind I could sell it to him.

There was nothing wrong with the R1 but the more I thought about it the more I regretted not getting the Colt. When I told my friend that I was having second thoughts on the R1 and thinking of getting the Colt instead he offered to buy the R1 off me. I told him with tax and everything the cost of the R1 came out to about $600 and I would sell it to him for that. So in the end I did end up selling it to him for $600 not $625, regardless I got my money back on the R1 and I was able to use it to buy the Colt instead.

Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. :barf:

I would like to appoligize for that it was just mean spirited.

Didn't say it was pretty, or should I say I didn't buy it because it was pretty. As long as it functions and is accurate that's all I care about. If I wanted a pretty gun I probably would have kept the R1:D

So I'm the only one that thinks the Colt looks nicer? I'm not knocking the Remington but I'd sooner have that Pony in my stable and I bet feels better in the hand to boot.

It's a Colt MKIV Series 70 Government Model, it doesn't get much more beautiful than that.

It's kinda like a supermodel wearing a really ugly hat:D

I deserved that.
It's not the pistol that I find offensive, it's that add-on rail. Flame suit on. :fire: I love Colts. If they were a little more affordable I would have purchased one for my first 1911. Did I just say my FIRST 1911? Indicating that I were going to buy MORE than one. Oh no! I must have the disease! :D
