Just picked up a new AR-15 over the weekend. Its a DTI with magpul handguard, grip and stock. I had never heard of Del Ton before but the shop owner said they are very good. Put 200 rounds through it when I got home with no issues. Very happy with it...didn't hit the target as much as I wanted but that was due to being about 20 degrees out and only wearing a sweatshirt, haha. Anyone have any input on Del-Ton?...like to hear some opinions. Thanks.

Did you zero it in first? And congrats! PM me for some zeroing instructions if you don't know how.

Also, pictures! but cover your serial number.

The Del-ton I had was a jamomatic...but I seem to be the only one online that has had that problem. Mine could of been a fluke.

However, mine did come with a card saying they had multiple calls about ftf/fte and that using anything but brass cased ammo would void the waranty so idk...

I used brass cased remmington from wal-mart.

Happy 20" Del-ton owner here. Mine is 99.9% for ~1000 rounds with Silver Bear, American Arms, PMC and Black Hills ammo. The only ammo it does not like is Tula 55gr FMJ. I have 6 FTE's out of 100 rounds with that garbage.

I was using PMC Ammo, the only issue I had was the first round didn't fully chamber when I pulled back on the charging handle...think that was my fault since I didn't "rack" the charging handle completely. I also got a card with mine saying certain ammo including reloads would void the warranty.

I could definitely use some help zeroing it in so any instructions would be great, thanks!

Zero the AR:

Use benchrest.

Turn knob on side of sight to move bullet left and right.
One click almost surely moves the bullet a half-inch at 100 yards.

Turn knob under rear sight to move bullet up and down.
Depending on the source of the sight, the amount of movement can vary.
Yours probably moves the bullet 1.375" per click.
If you put a couple clicks on, and you don't see any significant movement of the bullet, then your elevation clicks are probably also worth a half-inch per click.

You can see the thread-pitch of the shaft of the rear sights comes in various flavors.
Yours is probably like the one on the left.

Man, that is the wrong question to be asking and would have been more appropriate BEFORE you bought the rifle. Now that it's yours, don't worry about it. You are now the proud owner of an AR15 and the opinions here won't change that.

What you should be asking about is how to feed it without going broke and where's the best place to get lots of mags.

Del-Ton has a good reputation. Enjoy yours. Sounds like it runs fine. Next time try a jacket. :D

First AR I ever Purchased was a Del-Ton..I still have it and mine shoots anything I have tried in it. Presently set up in a scout config with a red dot. Use it for hog and Jack rabbits out to 150 yards. Very good trouble free Ar for me.

CONGRATULATIONS!

I have a Del-Ton upper with a chrome lined bore, 1x9" twist bbl. Accuracy with 50gr bullets and an Eotech is outstanding. No FTF, FTE. or jams of any kind. It isn't a top tier rifle but it is just a range toy.

To sight it at 25 yds based on that video, do you use the big peep rear sight or the smaller peep ?

welcome to the ar15 club.

just keep it clean and oiled. keep in mind that ar's like to be run wet. not like slinging oil everywhere, but a nice coat on all bearing surfaces, especially the rails, cam pin, and lockup lugs. maybe a drop on the gas rings and a light coat inside the carrier. maybe a little drop on the firing pin.

when your teeth arent chattering from the cold you will find it to be VERY accurate compared to other semi-auto rifles.

congrats

The video is pretty good but he says use the large aperture. I would use the small aperture instead for the 25/300 meter zero. Then when you flip to the large aperture (0-2) you have a 200 meter zero (and low light/close range).

Also the video should have explained the differences in zeroing for the M4 and M16 barrel lengths. He started to mention it but didn't cover it well at all.

The 50 yd/200 meter IBZ zero is even better, you can google to find it.

My Delton has been flawless. Congratulations, you should have posted pictures. Time for you to start sessorizing your new Del-ton.

Thanks...I'll try and post some pics of it tomorrow. I bought it basically as for target practicing/plinking and varmint hunting. For those that own Del Tons would you use it/trust it for personal defense? Not the reason I bought it but I hear a lot of people saying they wouldn't trust some AR's for that type of situation so thought I'd ask how they felt about DTI's. I'm guessing that DTI's are not MilSpec...what would I have to do to make it MilSpec if its possible? Thanks

I would suggest that you run a few hundred rounds though your new AR to make sure it runs well and all your mags feed reliably and then you should be G2G. The more you shoot your rifle the more comfortable and proficient you will become with it...and that to me is more important than your rifle being "milspec". For 25 years, my father-in-law has been telling me that when it comes to SD "it ain't the arrow, it's the Indian that matters". The older I get the more sense his little proverb makes to me;)
