First I went to Cabela's and picked up some ammo. I have plenty .22lr but can you have too much? Federal Champion bulk, Remington Golden Bullet, CCI Mini Mags, Win. Super X, and CCI Stinger. All of these have performed pretty well out of my 10/22 and my old Stevens model 56.

I picked up a box each of CCI Velocitors and Aguila Supermaximum Hyper Velocity. I got out some old 20 oz gatorade bottles and some 1 gallon milk jugs filled with water for testing.
All shots out of my Stevens model 56
First Win. Super X. Only 1 shot at 25 yards. The gatorade bottle knocked down small entrance and exit hole.

Mini Mag next. 1 shot at 25 yards. Gatorade bottle knocked down, small entrance 5 to 6 inch split on the exit about 2 inches wide.

Velocitor next. 1 shot at 25 yards. The gatorade bottle knocked down, small entrance with 6 to 7 inch split 3 inches wide. Very nice!

Aguila Supermaximum Hyper Velocity last. 1 shot at 25 yards. Gatorade bottle exploded, water spray at 4 to 6 feet high. Cap blown off and it disintigrated, no crap. Hit was square center, no threads on the top of the bottle and it was split 5 to 6 places.

I'm severely impressed by Aguila now to say the least.

Now the milk jugs
50 yards full of water, Stevens model 56 for both jugs

Velocitor first. 1 shot and the jug split 4 to 5 inches in the front and 7 to 8 in the back. Now that is impressive!

Aguila Supermaximum Hyper Velocity last. 1 shot and the jug split 7 to 8 inches in the front and the back was split all the way to the cap and to the bottom. Cap was blown off. Accuracy is very good. At least out of the old Stevens bolt action. 1 shot 1 jug/bottle killed!

As before, I am completely impressed. Aguila can sure make .22lr!

LOL that sounds like what happens when i hit them with my .17hmr.....i might have to go dig up some of those aguila.

As for .22 ammo, according an episode last night on the Military Channel, the Israeli Mossad has used .22 handguns for special missions.

I did not hear whether they used .22 LR or a magnum round.

I think a lot of country's have used .22lr for military or governmental work. Even here in the U.S., We had a suppressed .22lr that our spies used back in WWII. I would think that most would use .22lr, because making .22 mag work in a semi-auto handgun is a pain in the butt. Not that it is impossible but finding a semi-auto .22 mag handgun is hard. Suppressing .22lr is very easy also.

Back in the day, both Israeli Mossad agents and sky marshals were armed with the Beretta 70s in .22 LR.

Mordechai Rachamim famously used his .22 Beretta to engage four Palestinian terrorists armed with assault rifles. He killed one and held the others at bay until Swiss police were able to converge on the scene.

Not to rest on his laurels, Rachamim used his .22 Beretta to lethal effect again in the rescue of a hijacked airliner, when he again dispatched a terrorist during the operation.

The Israelis have since moved on to bigger calibers (not to say that .22's aren't still used for tactically appropriate situations, like assassinations), but I guess the above proves the dictum that there are no dangerous weapons -- only dangerous people.
