Yesterday I got the pleasure of starting out 2 new shooters in the family and giving them the gun bug. As a secondary plus I got to shoot some stuff I've never handled before.

I took both my older sisters to the range because they both have been bugging me to go shoot for a long time. However I only own a 12-gauge shotgun and handing a brand new shooter a 12-gauge slug I think would send them home with a nice bruise and no desire to touch a gun again, they also both indicated they didn't want to shoot clays because its so hard (their opinion, not mine). So I made some calls and heres the armory we had, with a total of only us 5 at the range.

-12-gauge shotgun (my gun, didn't see much use)
-20-gauge shotgun (also didn't see much use)
-AR-15, shot about 80 rounds between 4 of us and now they both want one
-9mm Glock conversion from .40, saw probably a hundred rounds
-.40 Glock, also saw alot
-.22 Taurus Pistol. I couldn't count the rounds out of this thing it may well be 200 or more
-30/30 Lever Action I believe was a Marlin I didn't ask, saw a few rounds maybe 15 total
-.308 Ruger M77 Mk II, maybe 6 went through this one, my buddy hasn't got a scope on it yet so sighting is "look down the barrel and pray"

So overall they both got to shoot a pretty wide variety of firearms and really liked the .22 pistol because it was almost no work to use and feels fun. I think with a little more experience they will like the AR-15 alot more, it was the first gun we got out and they were both a bit nervous. The high power stuff didn't see alot of use, I think that will come in time.

So I just thought I'd post this, its great to be able to introduce new shooters and between 2 friends of mine have such a wide array of stuff for them to try out. Best part is that living in Michigan we were able to have the AR-15 which my sister from New York can't even purchase at her home.
