You might recall me cussing my Square Deal press when I was having problems with the primer feed after it had sat a good while? Well, it finally quit altogether. I took the feed off and there's a little blue plastic thing in there that holds the primers before the feed picks 'em up. It was bent all up beyond use, KO, out of action. So, I guess I'll send Dillon the primer feed mechanism in a shipping tube. Seems the easiest thing to do. At least I know why I was having such problems with the thing now. It started working pretty good, just an occasional misfeed now and then. What was really puzzling me, though, is that it'd feed a primer upside down now and then and I KNEW I was puttin' 'em in right! Now I know why. This is the reason I kept checking the danged primers on the thing every time I threw the lever.

Bummer. Anyone else ever have this problem with those little plastic fingers? I really haven't loaded more'n 20 or 30 boxes on this thing, didn't use it for a long time. At least I know they'll fix it.

If you ask they will send you some of the primer nozzles and you can put a new one on yourself. Most of their presses come with an extra, look in your bags and boxes.

Thanks, I'll look. If it came with one, I have it. I kept the box it came in and all the doo dads. How do I get the old one out. Does the tube unscrew off the feed mechanism or something? I got it off, looked in there and saw the chewed up nozzle. Guess I'll go get the instructions that came with it, probably in there.

Same thing happened to me. I called Dillon and they sent me new caps, red and blue.

Just call Dillon. They will talk you through every step you need.

You take off the low primer alarm, unscrew the big knurled nut on the top and pull the primer tube out. The end piece just pulls off and you can push a new one on.

You also may want to buy the spare parts kit. That way you'll have the part on-hand and won't have to wait. You still call Dillon but it will be a replacement in your spare parts. :)

It came off the tube and was stuck in the bottom, but a small screw driver pressed it out. Thanks. I looked at the diagram in the manual that came with it and it was pretty obvious it was supposed to have come out with the primer tube.

Gonna go out in the shop when I get time this afternoon and see if I have a spare. Gotta work today. Can't call Dillon until Monday, anyway. I called 'em about the decapping pin I broke and 3 days later I had a dozen decapping pins, a couple of those little knurled nuts that hold the decapping pin, and a whole decapper/sizer unit to screw down into the die in the mail box. :what: I never ever have to worry about busting a decapping pin, got enough to last a lifetime now. :D

Thanks for the help, guys! I had to work yesterday, but went out in the shop today and found the spare primer nipple that came with the press, installed, filled the primer tube and powder hopper and cranked out 50 rounds in about 15 minutes. That's not too bad being as I was being careful and watching all functions intently (like pulling the brass out to check the primer). I don't really need it any faster, put it that way. :D

So, I think I have a good handle on the square deal press now. I need to keep using it and not let it sit up like it did, that's for sure. :banghead: I'm going to call Dillon this week for some spare small primer nipples and I'll be prepared for anything I reckon. :D That little plastic doo hickey was my whole problem, apparently.
