TINTON FALLS — The former Asbury Park police director has reported his gun missing, authorities said.

The gun, which is considered lost or stolen, was reported missing to Tinton Falls police on March 23.

Louis Jordan, who lives in Tinton Falls, reported that he had the gun with him on the night of March 17, Tinton Falls police said.

He said told police he was not feeling well that evening and apparently did not immediately realize the weapon was missing.

Jordan said he had the gun in a holster, and he did not know if the weapon fell from the holster, police said.

He began to look for the gun on March 20, and visited the two places where he had stopped on his way home on the night he believes the gun went missing, police said.

Jordan reported the gun missing on March 23.

He has a permit to carry the weapon, police said.

A few things about this raised my eye, especially just having moved from New Jersey:

1. How do you NOT keep track of your weapon?
2. How do you NOT know whether your weapon fell from its holster?
3. Whose butt did he kiss to get that permit to carry!?!?

Translation:
DISCLAIMER: Apparantly I have to point out that this is humor, sarcasm, etc.

He said told police he was plastered that evening and apparently did not immediately realize the weapon was missing.

He began to look for the gun on March 20, and visited the two bars where he had stopped on his way home on the night he believes he left the gun on the back of a toilet, police said.

if an ex-cop, someone who is trained with years of experience in the black art of weapons keeping, cant even keep track of a gun, how are we supposed to trust normal, untrained, unholy, unworthy, sub-human humans with these automatic killing machines? There needs to be a complete ban on police issued weapons. clearly no one can contain these baby killing monsters we call handguns.

As I was reading the article, I'm waiting to see something like, "...and charges will be filed....". I've known former LEOs in New Jersey that were turned down for a permit to carry. I guess adding Director makes the difference.

He went drinking, armed, became dangerously intoxicated, allowed his firearm to be misplaced and stolen, and did not immediately report it? Ya know, in this case, I'd say I hope Jersey files charges, simply because of WHO he is. I am one of those people who think LE should be held to a higher standard, not lower, when it comes to any activity touching the law.

No no no, I think TexasRifleMan was just razzing us a little with that edit. The original article doesn't indicate why he wasn't feeling well, nor where he went to.

Sorry, I've added 3 or 4 disclaimers to point out the, what I thought, obvious humorous post.

Not quite sure. Even having lived in Monmouth County and in Tinton Falls (which parts are a spit away from Asbury Park), I've never heard that title, Police Director.

Hm. Here that wouldn't even make the news... our cops 'lose' firearms at a remarkable rate while they're still in uniform, and not long ago one of our Safety and Security ministers had his gun stolen along with the briefcase it was in.

Some people are just a liability...
