Today I bought a GP100 3". I like the barrel length and the gun as a whole. Except I'd like the longer grip, which I believe comes on the longer barrel guns. At any rate this is my first GP and I'm sadly ignorant of the model. I hope the longer one fits cause I bought one off E Bay. If not the new grips will go in my box o grips. Any grip info appreciated. I like the stock rubber ones, and I'm gonna get some Lett inserts, as soon as my credit card cools off.

In the last 2 months or so I've bought: S&W 686-1 4", S&W 34 .22 2", S&W 13-4 3", CZ83, and now this GP.. Oh yeah and S&W 28 4". They're all used but looking good.

The grips should interchange without any problems. I am considering going the other way, and putting the smaller ones on a 4" revolver.

Old Fuff: Thanks for reply. I should recieve new ones within a week (I hope). If you want I'll send you these short ones and see if you like the "feel". They're like new. If you like them you can send me a few bucks. This is of course pending delivery of the ones I purchased, and if you like the idea.

I'm not so sure they will fit unless...

It's my understanding that the short grips fit the fixed sight models and the longer grips are a separate part number that fit the adjustable sight models. I further understand that they are not interchangeable. I'd love to be proved wrong on this but I just called Ruger and they confirmed this.

Anyone?

I guess we'll see. Attached is quick n dirty pic. of my 3". I ain't arguing cause I don't know. But I don't know about tang length being longer on 4". Screw on 3" and 4" grips looks like it's in same position.

Yeah, like I said...I hope I'm wrong. I can't imagine they would have a different tang length for fixed versus adjusted sights.

Let us know! And, if they DO fit, I'm calling Ruger and giving them a piece of my mind for deceiving me. :fire:

I'd like to give em a piece of my mind for all this stinkin BS writing on the barrel. Butt in my case I can't afford even a tiny piece. It's all leaving me on it's own.

The shorter grip is for the three inch fixed sight version, all others have the full grip. Both grips will fit interchangeably with all GP-100 grip frames. The smaller grip will take the same inserts as the SP-101 and that is where a lot of confusion comes into play as folks think an SP-101 grip will interchange with a GP-100 and they do not. You may order the rubber grip from Ruger or Lett for about ten or twelve bucks without inserts.

I have both grips for my GP-100 and both fit perfectly.

It remains to be seen after popeye gets the stocks he has on order, but looking over a parts listing I find that all SP-100 revolvers use the same hammer spring, hammer spring strut, and mainspring retainer. The frame extentions look the same to me, and I don't think Ruger would do otherwise. I believe 461 is correct, but only time will tell.

On an unrelated matter, a local dealer called Ruger for advise about a certain model pistol. He was told one thing, but as things turned out the information was wrong. Maybe the company has a problem in this area. :scrutiny:

Popeye:

That was a generous offer, and I thank you for making it. I expect to be traveling for a bit, but when I land and get settled in I'll send you a P.M. and see if the offer is still open. :D

Edited to add: Ruger doesn't like the billboard either, but it's lawyer required. It was part of a lawsuit settlement made years ago.

The small and the large grips on the GP interchange with no problem. I have a 4" GP with a small grip on it. This was done after I pulled off the large grip.

Ruger doesn't waste money pouring two different grip tangs as this would lead to two different castings for the same weapon.

Ruger got where they are by being smart.

The fixed sight 3" model is a smaller grip. The grip insert on this particular model is identical to the grip insert for the the SP101.
