GP100 .44 Special

I have the GP 100 in .44 special with the 3" barrel. Love the thing! Super accurate and can stand some pretty hot .44 special loadings. Super fun to shoot with standard loads though. Have not hunted with it tho.

Glad to hear that the QA on these .44's have improved. Been doing some thinking. I never really shoot my Redhawk any more, actually haven't in years.
Gonna look into chopping the barrel down from 7.5 to 3.5 inches for better packing out in the field. It'll still be a heavy chunk but I'll still be able to shoot magnums whenever I feel like it.
I'll need to price the cut, crown and have a front sight grooved in. There are a few decent smiths locally here I can check with.

Anyone here had their standard Redhawk barrel shortened?

I bought an early 3-inch and sent it back to Ruger to fix the front sight and replace the cylinder with one with consistent throats. Been great since.

I want a 5-inch.

Why in the hell don't they make it in 44 mag.
Over built, built like a tank, all this smoke being blown up our rears and Smith & Wesson out does them by putting the 44 mag in an L frame.
I would guess that Ruger projects offering 44 Mag in the Super GP100, which would be better named New Redhawk. It is a Redhawk frame with a two-piece barrel. The only thing GP100 about it is the grip frame style and trigger configuration also inherited by the Super Redhawk. They seem to make too much of that trigger mechanism when calling it a GP100.
