Life is just crammed full of strange.
Ignore the picture & order the Compacts. :)

In the description note that it says 3 3/4 height, which is the "full" sized grip though smaller than the Hogues currently being put on the GP 100s.

About three months ago I ordered a couple without realizing they weren't in stock but last week got them and they are the size I expected for GP 100s.

As to the store being slow, I haven't noticed that as long as it says the item is in stock. No different than Midway, etc.

Anybody compare these with the full size old style? Are they much narrower as well as a bit shorter? I might have to just buy a pair and see. These were originally on the short barrel GP's if I remember?

For years, Ruger used to ship the compacts on fixed-sight GPs.

My oldest one from 1988/89, fixed sight 4-incher, came with them.
My two 3-inch GPs came with them.

Mark Gurney, product manager at Ruger, had wanted to bring the compacts back a year or two ago & he says Kurt Hindle, another Ruger product manager, made it happen.

We owe their reintroduction to them.

The full size grips on my GP100 are 4.25", it would appear those are compact as the description states at 3.75".

Just checked the Ruger Shop and both compact and full sized are offered.

Description is 3 3/4 compact and 4 inch full sized.

The compact GP100 grips also take SP101 grip inserts.

Last year, somebody on another forum was nice enough to mail be a set of the compact GP100 grips for free, he said he had new grips on the gun and didn't use them anymore. Very awesome thing to do. On ebay and gunbroker these compact grips were going for well over $100 a few months back... I bet the cost will drop considerably now!

These grips are very comfortable, and would be perfect for the 3" GP100s. I was seeking a pair to go with my KGPF-340 late production 2012 vintage which is a 4" gun with fixed sights, pretty uncommon especially one produced that late. The gun originally had the stock Hogue grips, but the original KGPF-340s had the Ruger compacts. I like the feel, but honestly think for the 4" GP100s and up the full size grips feel better and make more sense. They offer better control of the weight out front.

Apparently shopruger is not the blackhole any more or at least in every case, because my order for the new compacts is scheduled to be delivered tomorrow. I am in a neighboring State, but shazam!, that's fast.

Just a little off topic but, are these grips that much nicer than the hogue grips currently offered with the new revolvers? If so in what way are they better or should I say different?

personally i think the Hogue grips that ship with current GP100s is FANTASTIC, they are a good texture and fill the hand well.....and i cannot stand the "compact" grips, i had a set on my SP101 and promptly changed them out, they just felt odd in my hands, and they just look tacky to me.

The GP compact grips don't fit the SP.
You're talking about two different grips.

yes but it is the same style of grip......same material and design......

Different sizes on different guns.
Really doesn't compare.

IMHO, the Ruger original wood insert santoprene grips are much better than the HOGUE abortions that come on the guns these days.

Both the full size and compact inserts are just so much better, no pesky finger grooves that only fit certain hand shapes like the HOGUE grips.

Awesome! Could you please post a picture of the grips when you get them? I'm curious to see what they look like compared to the old production compact grips.

The candidate gun to carry the grips is at Clements Custom, but I could show them next to the regular size Altamonts carried on my 5" GP100.

where is the .22 mag ammo?? do they even make it anymore? i wanted gold dot short barrel .22 mag.

Cool! I'd just like to see the grips, doesn't have to be on a gun. I'm curious to see how the wood looks vs. my vintage pair shown in an above post. These really are some of the best GP100 grips made. Thanks!

I have the grips and put together a couple pictures showing the size comparison on and off the gun. I prefer the bigger model with this 5" gun, allowing full purchase for the pinky, even with my small hands. The compacts will be used on a 3" 41 Special, which I don't believe will be quite the challenge to control under full power ammo.

I don't get into any more obsessive discussions of inserts, so please take those at pictured value.

The rubber on the compacts has none of the faux stippling of the larger style.
