gp100+python barrel question

would adding a colt python barrel to a gp100 increase the gp100's accuracy at all?

this is nearly impossible to answer. two bbls, from any mfgr, off of the same production line, in consecutive order can be as different as night and day.

true, but generally speakin certain models of any gun tend to be more accurate then another model from another mfg

It would depend on several things... if you have an exceptionally accurate GP as is then maybe not...
It would also depend on the quality of the conversion and if everything else was proper on he GP ie the timing etc...

I would say having any quality barrel, regardless of manufacturer, custom fit to a revolver will enhance it's accuracy.

It would "probably" increase accuracy to some extent but NO guarantees.

The Python barrel has a faster rate of rifling that increases accuracy, and Colt always made their own barrels. Colt barrel were made to a very high standard and were famous in the industry for quality and accuracy.
In addition, the Python barrel was tapered toward the muzzle to grip the bullet better as it passed down the bore.

The limiting factor is that the Ruger, while a nice gun, may not be itself accurate enough to take advantage of the better quality and accuracy Colt Python barrel.

So, you might see some increase in accuracy, but the Ruger would not be the best choice if you're looking for a pure accuracy custom job.
For that, you'd be better to use a selected S&W revolver which can make better use of the better Python barrel than a Ruger can.
For a pure accuracy revolver, you'd probably be saving money over any custom re-barrel job by just buying a Python or looking for one of the Dan Wesson's made when between bankruptcy quality was good.

just from the "neat" stand point, a Python barrel would look better on a Security-Six

It would look "neat". These Ruger's with Python barrels were called "Couger's" years ago.

If you decide to have one made up, be aware that Colt Pythons had TWO different barrel threads.
The old style barrels can be recognized by the two pins in the front sight. These were .5634"-32 threads.

New style threaded barrels had a single front sight pin.
These were .562"-36 threads.

Before buying a barrel, talk to the gunsmith who'll be doing it.

Based on what I've seen there's little or no evidence that the average Python is any more acurate than the average GP100...

That's not to say there aren't lousy GPs...
