Have a wonderful polish now on trigger parts.

I know what shimming will do as far as tightening tolerance on hammer and reducing scratch marks on the side of the hammer from frame rub...

What else will it give me?

Thanks,

Because it reduces play, it can reduce wear but I don't know that I've ever heard of a GP100 developing issues due to that kind of wear.

Because it typically reduces contact area, it reduces friction which can result in a lighter DA trigger pull.

It makes the gun a lot harder to work on.

And shims can increase the number of parts left over on the bench after re-assembly. :cuss:

The innards of a GP are SS. No shims are required nor desired. If you have scratches it's because the trigger job wasn't done properly. Emery cloth will remove the high spots and remove any contact points on the side of the hammer and trigger. Then change the springs. Or cut a 1/4 turn off the main spring.
"...spreads the contact area over a wider area for less friction..." Nope.
