GP100 vs S&W?

i went with the GP100 in 357 MAG with a 6" barrel full lug
there are pic's on site here somewhere (http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=565321)
it has been nothing but flawless since new last spring
it has only about 250 rounds thru it and the trigger improved tenfold
since pulling it the first time
the gun is in stainless and i added tru glow sights
as i use this for hunting as well as protection at home and travel
i have owned s&w in the past and would not buy another new one
although and older model 44MAG has been quite reliable
cost wise to quality/longevity ruger GP is gun of choice here now

I have owned the GP-100 and the 686. Both are fine guns, since I don't shoot fire belching loads I have no need for the Ruger.Triggers on the Rugers are better than they used to be and sometimes you can find one better than a S&W but not very often. You can do a trigger job on a Ruger and it MAY be as good as a S&W, but do a trigger job on the S&W and it WILL be better than the Ruger. Some of my S&Ws are from the 70s and 80s and have never needed any repair.

OP probably figured out by now, that he already picked out the best two options currently offered in non-custom grade 357 DAs

Ruger, tuff as they come
S&W, still the smoothest out of box no matter what you hear from those who are still angry at the Brits
(and trust me, you cannot see that little hole in the side frame if you are paying attention to your sight picture, like you ought)

on woobie factor alone, I would vote for the 686
but you could do a LOT worse than either
the rest is really just personal preference, be your own person

(but if you have not yet shot a k-frame S&W, you are missing a big part of the picture, doncha' know) :)

PS
that utter nonsense about 2000 rds putting 'em out of time wasn't about S&Ws... it's about Colts
and it's nonsense in either case
(unless mebbe you shoot Nukes, like prior poster said, get a stout SA for that)
