If you shoot alot get the GP.

Plenty of grip options .

I`ve tried many since `85 but go back to the rubber panel grips every time.

& yes ,I`ve shot 586/686s also .

I have had a 27-2 for years and put everything but the kitchen sink through it. The trigger pull is to die for. It is my opinion that a "collectable" model like this not only shoots well but will be a better investment.

Ruger GP100. I've shot them both in the same range trip and the less expensive GP100 outperformed not only the 686, but the Colt Python, in pretty much every way.

I'll even go so far as to say my GP100 is my favorite gun I've ever shot. Accuracy is superb and it is built like a tank.

Makes me realize how some people can feel adequately armed with a revolver in a semi automatic world.

This past weekend a friend asked me the same question.
His brother is looking to buy his first revolver. I said does
He want a GMC Sierra or a Chevy Silverado? The Smith will
Cost you more, $150 to $175 more, but is smoother, the
Lines are nicer and is balanced better. The trigger is easier
To work up if you wish. The Ruger is built like a brick, you
Know what, but may feel a little more rough and not as
Smooth, but it will survive the Apocolypse. The money
You will save getting the Ruger will free up funds for ammo,
Or maybe a good holster/gun belt. BTW I own both and
Love them both. This is a decision only you can make, you
Won't go wrong either way. I'd love to be in your position,
That means I'd be ready to buy another gun, but I'm not
And my Wife would not like it too well. I'm sure a reloader
Would love to have a GP100!! Good luck and have fun !!
