Hi folks im trying to find out when my grandfathers 35 remington model 8 autoloader with peep sights and browning patent dates on the barrel was made, i have the original reciept when my grampa baught it used but unfortunatly it has no date on it, my dad told me that grampa purchased this rifle in the thirtys, i do know that the last model 8 was made in 1936 and first model made was in 1906 unless i am missinformed this rifle is a beutiful peace of firearm and the rifling is like new condition and over all condition as well, i remember as a small boy hunting with grampa and how much i admired his rifle and thaught to myself how i would like to have it some day, my grandfather swore by this gun and is the only gun he ever used even for elk and i happen to know by personnel experience the devistating knock down power it has, i was also told that it does not reach very far, but last year while hunting with by buddy he shot a dear with it so far away i could not even see it until it was hit and i saw it drop and man did it drop it!!! anyway can someone shed a lil more light on this and its approximate value serial # is 15403 located in front of the magezine

Last year's Blue Book says they made approx. 60,000, but doesn't list serial numbers. Value is listed at $600 in 98% condition.

thanks for input

Bullet bob thanks for the info and apreciate all other replys, Bullet Bob i went to the web sight and it said the serial number had letters and is located on the barrel mine has no letters and is located underneath just in front of the mag, thanks for all the input but i need more info, this is an awesome web sight but please more help

I was recently given a Model 8 in .35 as well. You can go right to Remingtons web site, and get the date of manufacture. Mine was made in Nov. 1929.

The letter codes on the barrel weren't started until 1921. With a SN of 15xxx out of 80,500 made it looks like an early gun. The Remington site says:

Starting: 00001
Ending: 80,500

gramps 35

thanks for all the input i went to remingtons web site and although informative kinda limited so i did some more checking and remington has a 800 number to call and get the info i am looking for but i cant call till mon but the 800 number is just in case anyone is interested 800-243-9700 also just thaught i would throw in a lil trivia did you folks know that there were two 35 remingtons used in the ambush of bonny and clyde and that it was the prefered firearm of the texas rangers for a good many years and were retrofitted with twenty round retractible clips. Its really cool that this firearm has such a historical background, thanks everyone when i get ahold of remington and get more info i will post it here and try to get some pics as well, thanks again
