You forgot to mention that he did it at his first USPSA match in 20 years or so. (it was a classifier match)

A few years ago I was the SO on a stage and got to watch Dean up close. The last shooting position was low cover and I was able to get in a position to his right where I could be safe, not bother Dean, but watch his reload. All I can say is WOW. It was amazingly fast. He was shooting ESR (.45 ACP, moon clip, major power factor)

Af few weeks ago mutual friend called to tell me Dean made Grand Master on his ‘first classifier.’ He was surprised anyone could make Grand Master on his first try.

Also not mentioned is that he was also 1) using speedloaders (and a Ruger GP100) rather moonclips and 2) and shooting minor PF. AFAIK, the first to make GM doing so.

He's an awesome shooter, and an awesome sportsman.

+1

And an awesome teacher to boot. A real asset to our shooting community.

[free plug] For those who don't know, Dean owns and operates Caswell Ranch, in central NC. If you're interested in checking out some well-run matches or are looking for some training, visit Caswell sometime. [/ free plug]
