I've read a lot of forums and articles about a Damascus barrel on a Batavia Leader shotgun. All of the serial numbers mentioned in them are only 5 digits long.
I have a Batavia Leader with six digits. 202XXX F ("F" indicating "field grade" and is evident by the lack of engraving on the side.)
I read that the Damascus barrel was employed first in the manufacture of these shotguns, but that they later used a stronger steel. Seeing as my serial number is so much higher than most, I am wondering if I have one of the last firearms manufactured by the Baker Gun company. BTW, the grip, receiver, and barrels all have the same serial number. One side reads "Batavia Leader" and the other reads "Baker Gun Co.", not "Batavia NY" as most seem to post in their articles. Also the stock has no cracks in it, though it's a bit dinged up from years of use.
I have put 2 3/4" shells into it before, but am starting to wonder if I'm pushing my luck.
Who can I contact to find out about this firearm, please?
Thanks for any advice!
