my grandpa's been moved into a nursing home for a while b/c he's got dementia and he becomes violent at times so my dad took the shotguns in his house. anyways i was wondering if anyone knew anything about them, i've never heard of the brands. i may try to get some pics

first one's a Boitco .410. it looks almost like a break open single barrell, but it won't break open and i don't know how it loads or how to unload it. it's SA

second one's a Stevens Arms 680-A pump action 16 gauge. action won't slide, there's a button near the triggerguard that jiggles when you try to slide it back but i've tried to move it and it won't budge.

also the shells for the 16 gauge are called Sportload. says sold by Sears, know if that's the retail outlet? they're purple, wouldn't use em, anyone know how old anything is?

I'm thinkingyou mean BOITO on the single shot shotgun. This is an El Cheapo gun, made in Brazil and imported by many hardware stores.

Can't locate the Stevens 680 Sorry

I THINK the Boito opens by pulling back on the trigger guard.
CAUTION - Keep away from the trigger while attempting to open it.

I suspect a Stevens 680 is a version of the 67 pump. The jiggly button is the action release. Hold it down and pull back on the slide handle.
CAUTION - The action locked shut like that means that it is cocked. Maybe loaded.

Either or both guns might well be loaded, especially if your Grandpa is demented to the point of paranoia. I suggest you only fool with them outside pointed in a safe direction. Or get somebody more knowledgeable to check them out.

Purple 16 gauge shells are a fairly recent color code. Plastic, aren't they? Probably not over 40 years old and safe to shoot.

Sears doesn't handle bad old guns and ammunition any more, haven't for years.

Mr. Watson is correct, one or both shottys MAY BE LOADED.

As I sort of very vaguely recall, "color coded" shotgun ammo came out sometime in the mid-'60's...
