I am in need of advice. Up until two years ago I was a whittler and carver. I developed trigger finger reflex and gave away all my Queen and Kershaw carving knives to people who could use them. I switched to palm carvers and have gotten along fine so far. I used Buck lightnings for everyday carry and they were big enough for me to handle. Now the problem, I am 68 and first grandchild is due. Daughter in law is scared to death of my buck lightnings and has requested I not carry in her prescense/house. She is not bothered by a folding pocket knife that does not look so alarming, think traditional stag or bone three blade like her father carries. So far I have a Case Sowbelly that works(TB6339) for me. I have a line on a Case Sowbelly(TB5339CV) and was wondering what the difference was other than the steel. Any suggestions for a fairly innocent looking multi-blade pocket knife about that size would also be extremely welcome.

I know this isn't what you're asking, but if you give in to her fears you only help cement them. Point out to you that you carry what you can comfortably work with with your disability and she surely wouldn't be so cruel as to be a bigot about your handicap?

OTOH, it does make for an excuse to get another knife and there are wood and stag handled one hand openers and assists out there that you could grab.

As to the differences beyond the CV steel and the surgical stainless...dunno. They look the same to me. Same blade length. Same blade count (except a "Vault" model).

Prayers sent for your DNL. She has a unrealistic fear of some knives. You need to have a honest face to face with her and Your Son . Now if you want to just get along then get a Case Sowbelly.

hso,
Long ago and far away I was thrust into raw, red and violent times. Getting over it has consumed a lot of my life. My daughter in law in my opinion is more than a bit naïve. However our son graduated high school, got an Eagle in Scouting and moved out on his own in the same week. He is and has been nonviolent, as has his wife. Their house their rules, our house our rules. We get along and for all of us it works. Our son has lived this way for over 30 years and I am still unsure whether he is overly optimistic or whether I am over paranoid.
My way works for me and I will never be able to leave it totally behind me.

Like my father before me

Prayers for them both. I like 99% here seek to live a quiet nonviolent life but based upon his own Boy Scout Traing he should be prepared for the not so nice things in life.
As we all know life is not always NICE!

HSO,
My wife was reading sort of over my shoulder and has suggested that I am rambling away from the topic. I need to talk to some old friends, enemies and relatives. Could you please close this topic. When I get my mind straight I may list topic differently.
Thank you everybody for your paitience,
