New to knife's, what should I buy.

I will be carrying this knife on duty LE and off duty in civilian clothes.

I want something that will clip into my pants pocket, and it must have a stainless blade with a portion of the blade surrated.

I have looked at Kershaw and CRKT. What else is there?

Can anyone reccommend website's with discounts?

Wow, that's like asking what food should you eat! The best thing to do is read all the posts in this section, and go to http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=672 and read there also.

Kershaw is great, this guy http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=1403&item=2182590316 has the Blackout and Whirlwind for $30. shipped which is a steal. I have those which are great, and the Rainbow leek which is now one of my favorites, but not very "tactical". I might just buy the plain Leek I like this one so much.

You can not go wrong with Spyderco, Benchmade, Microtech, Emerson, Cold Steel, etc. also.

Best advise is to do your research, find the knifes that look good, go to a store and fondle them, then buy from that store or do a http://www.google.com/ search for the best price.

If you narrow it down to a couple repost and you'll get more specific advise.

Depends on your budget really. Most officers will get by just dandy with CRKT offerings. If you have more money to throw at it, get a Microtech. You could spend more, but you reach a point of diminishing returns, especially if it's going to be used "on duty"

Nothing wrong with the Bokers. Spyderco, CRKT, Benchmade, etc. should all be available to you.

For the price it's very difficult to beat CRKT, but there are models from other makers available in europe that are not available in the USA. Look at the Mikovs from the Czech Republic. I've got a couple and have been impressed. They should be terribly inexpensive for you.

Do not buy a liner lock from a "minor" company unless it is recessed such that you have to dig for it to release the blade.

Automatics should be available to you and should be far less expensive than in the USA. Stay away from the Magnums. Stick with Boker, Heubertus, etc. While no faster than a one hand opener they do have very strong locks.

I bought the Kershaw Ken Onion Blackout.

I must say that this knife is very fast to deploy and well built. It will serve me well for now.

Best of all I got it right on base at the Base Exchange. Price wasn't too bad either...$54!

I couldn't find one with the seratted edge, but this will do fine. Plus it's an excuse to get another knife later.:D

hso is right! These brands are good and yes CRKT makes some good knives, let us know if we can help or if you have any questions for us! Paul
